Both In There Prime Lets Sey 26 Yrs Who Takes It In 15 Rnds I Would Have To Say Jeffries In 10 - 13 By Ko
jeffries never faced a fighter as big and powerful as foreman so we dont know how his chil will hold up
The only thing Jeffries definitely had better than Foreman was stamina. Chin's are close, punching power goes to George. I think if Jeffries could survive long enough, Foreman might gas out and Jeffries could probably take him out late. I think it's 60/40 in Foreman's favor.
In this fight, Foreman would be fighting a guy as tall buit more massive, muscular and physically stronger than himself with a great chin and stamina. Both were not particularly known for their speed. But the factors Foreman would have in his favour would be power (different from strength) and punch. The key tp how this fight would turn out would lie in the early rounds. Foreman would have to use his advantage in punching power in the early rounds to knockout or stop Jeffries. If the fight travels beyond four or five rounds, a victory for Jeffries is almost a certainty. So, it all boils down to whether George would be able to put away Jim by rounds 4-5. Nobody punched harder than a young George Foreman. But then Jim Jeffries was also known for his granite chin and resolute will. I would say that this would be a 60-40 fight for Foreman.
Maxmomer, how come you and I were thinking so alike at the same time? I swear that I had not read your post before I posted. Your post was not there when I first read this thread and decided to reply. If you check the timings you will find that I was busy typing when you posted.
Jeffries had nowwhere near the functional strength george foreman had. Foreman manhandled and pushed back a 6'0 215lb joe frazier. Jeffries had trouble pushing around 165lb men, and took many rounds of struggling to dispose of older much smaller competition......its not even close.
I think SuzieQ is wrong on a few points. He says that Jeffries had trouble with 165 Lb men, but boxrec shows that he only fought one man of that size in his whole career. That man was Joe Choynski who had 40 bouts when Jeffries had only 4. The rest of Jeffries' opponents were over 200 Lbs and usually over 6 feet in height. Jim basically fought men who were of fairly good size back in the day. Its kind of silly to slap him on the hand for having a single weak performance against a 40 fight veteran in only his 5th pro bought just because that man was smaller.
I feel that Foreman was at least as physically strong as Jeffries, but I think Jeffries was very strong himself.
Where the hell did you come up with that? Boxrec lists the weights of 10 of his opponents, only 2 of them weighed 200 or more, Gus Ruhlin and Jack Johnson. Also, Bob Fitzsimmons is another fighter that weighed in the high 160's low 170's in their fights.
the main reason i think jeffries is because of his chin and also was a good faster boxer than most think not just a slugger and big george would tire but it would be awsome match
Im afraid you are totally wrong.Jeffries fought only one man over 200lbs ,that was Jack Johnson who scaled 208 for their fightJeffries was 227. Apart from Johnson ,Jefries only fought one man who weighed 200lbs ,that was Gus Ruhlin who scaled 200 for both his fights with Jeffries, the first was a draw the second was a corner retirement by Ruhlin.Fitz weighed167 for the first Jeffries fight ,he was 37 ,for the second he weighed 172 and was 40 years old,Jeffries weighed206 for the first fight,a 39 lbs advantage, and 219 for the second ,a 47 lbs advantage.Choynsky scaled 165 to Jeffries 217, 52 lbs advantage to Jeffries.Jeffries best wins are over a 37 year old and a 40 year old Fitz ,and a 33 yearold and a 36 year old Corbett Jeffries was 30lbs heavier than Corbett for the first fight and30lbs for the second, both Fitz and Corbett had retired at least once before coming back to take on Jeffries.Jeffries other big wins are over the 5 8 Tom Sharkey who he outweighed by 32 lbs.
Foreman is 6 3 1/2 best weight around 224, Jeffries was 6 2 best weight around 218. I dont see any physical disadvantages for George at all,Jeffries may have superior stamina,or it may be because fights were fought at such a slow pace then,Foreman has the clear edge in power.Jeffries looked strong manhandling men 40lbs lighter, some of them in their mid to late thirties ,Foreman shoved good sized heavies back and manhandled big guys. Jeffries is actually no bigger than Holyfield .
What do you base your prediction on? Jeffries Going 45 rds with a 183 5 8 Sharkey? Or 11 rds with a 167lbs 37 year old Fitz? The biggest punchers Jeffries fought were 167 lb Fitz and 165lbs Choynsky,it'sjust possible a 224lbs Foreman might knock him silly.
