I never mentioned McVey's jab:huh, but I would not want to make a firm evaluation of it based on a couple of seconds of flickering film against Battling Jim Johnson..My point was bigger, agressive, come forward hookers did not do well against Johnson. A fact I alluded to when replying to Janitor and his picking of Frazier to beat Jack.

He did ,and he was fighting over a maximum distance of 15rds.

Do you think he would be" smoking" like that if he was in 30,25,20rds ,and finish fights?

What's the proven antidote for short , bob and weave swarmers?

    The uppercut.

Johnson threw them with either hand.:think

Wasn't trying to infer that you did mention it. McVey was known to be an exponent of the jab in his day so I mentioned it to give reference upon the contemporary opinion of Klondike's jab. A bit off track perhaps. And there is more than enough footage of him trying to use it make one seriously wonder. He seems to be more performing a jousting movement than using any snap of even setting up anything more than a clinch and whale routine.

McVey was not known for his jab, in fact it was remarked upon that he seldom utilised it. He was primarily known for his left hook.
He also possessed a fine right cross, and uppercut

Again I never mentioned Klondike, my reference was to Denver Ed Martin who WAS known for his jab ,and had an 81"reach.

ps What was the name of that author you said was similar to McCarthy, but better?
I've just ordered " Butchers Crossing," by John Williams.

I don't see this at all. Frazier might win but how are you so sure?
Unranked Mathis was in front on one score card, and level on another before Frazier ground him down in11 rds.
Quarry was on his feet when stopped on cuts.
Bonavena gave Frazier life and death twice.
I just don't see the reason for such a confident prediction.

Different styles Frazier could put relentless pressure on a moving opponent, the legs like a T-Rex and the left hook, While Johnson could grab, jab & hold and pop at Frazier I can see it having an effect on Foreman (who I favor over Johnson) because of stamina but not Frazier who handled Ali in their primes FOTC and I think Ali was more versatile & equipped than JOHNSON (who was a capable defensive fighter) Frazier was dangerous into the 15th round vs Ali and I think he breaks Johnson down quicker but after 10 for the KO....the fighters IMO that would give Frazier trouble are the guys that can meet him in the center of the ring & bring power and then it becomes a battle of chins...Dempsey,Marciano,Tyson,Baer,Liston,Foreman,Lewis are guys that may not necessarily win but bring more danger for Frazier's style than Johnson IMO

Its a feasible argument but, putting your house on it?
For the record, I think Dempsey, Marciano, Tyson , Liston and Lewis all beat Frazier.Foreman we allready know about.
