In 1994 both held versions of the title. Who you got when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object? Could Foreman possibly crack his chin?
This Foreman has less chance of cracking his chin than the younger Foreman. I doubt McCall gets knocked out or down, he was Tyson's sparring partner for hundreds of rounds apparently and he's never been knocked out or down in sparring or fights amateur and professional.
I wouldn't rule out a Foreman win in this one, based on how bad McCall looked immediately post Lewis. He had big trouble figuring out Holmes and Bruno, and Foreman's jab still had a bit of snap on it at that point. Not long prior to that he looked bad against Tucker. It didn't necessarily take movement to confuse McCall, and he was prone to being listless and switching off in fights. At that point in Foreman's career though, lesser fighters than McCall were able to outbox and outwork him. I'd still make McCall the favourite, as long as he brought a solid gameplan and stuck to it. A knockout is unlikely either way, with two of the best chins in the division. Moorer aside, 90s Foreman generally went the distance against world-class fighters. In return, Foreman had a way of intimidating fighters into thinking they couldn't hurt him, and it was difficult to work out whether he was genuinely hurt by punches he took. McCall's chin is obviously McCall's chin - it's difficult to pick him to lose by knockout in fantasy fights when there's very little evidence to support that throughout a 70 fight, 30 year career.
Question is, was the holmes of that time any better or worse than foreman? After all holmes took him a a tight decision loss. I see it foreman my self in this by points. But it's which mccall turns up. If he s motivated and crazy, he gives foreman a rough ride, but if it's the holmes ft version, foreman bangs away and gets a unanimous.
Foreman would use that version of McCall as a heavy bag. Battering round after round until the ref stops it. McCall at his best just was never very good.
Where are all these McCall wars? He was durable and strong but not a terribly aggressive fighter driven to win, once Foreman hits him good a few times, he'll go into that sparring partner mentality and surrender to a point loss. Not unlike the Bruno/McCall fight, except old Foreman paces himself better.
