For the most part I agree but Young did fight off the ropes at times (not as much as he usually would) and took Foreman's best punches in the 7th round. http://megavideo.com/?v=Y9EO1VDG The decisive 7th round in which Foreman expends most of his energy.
YES! But for Christ Sake, Tommy Morrison moved and circled Foreman like track runner...... Morrison landed more punches too, but Morrison always had very quick hands..... Morrison won on points..... Morrison was VERY focused and motivated for that particular fight in June of '93....... Peace........ MR.BILL
What Young and his camp also did was a of couple of weeks before the fight complained of Foreman and his pushing off tactics.During the fight Young and his corner whinned and got Foreman warned.Little Jimmy played the victim, had the crowd behind him and everything.I really enjoyed it when he had a smaller Ossie Ocassio turn the tables on him.
Ossie Ocasio? JESUS! I never liked that guy..... Holmes KO'd Ocasio with a jab, and Qawi damn near ran his outta the ring in 1987, but got shafted in the scoring.... MR.BILL
Anyone that knows anything about boxing and Walcott has to say he is capable of beating any of the ATG's on a given night....the ones looking to pick hair and are blind or predetermined in opinion of the 50's cant be convinced....If they hate Louis and Marciano...they wont give Walcott props....but most of the real inside respected trainers I know, put JJW up there
Walcott would win the first three or four rounds, but I think Foreman WOULD get to him in the middle rounds and stop Jersey Joe.
I never liked Young, his fight against Ali he shoulda been disqualified for sticking his head on the other side of the ropes, what did he he was in the WWF.The best part ogf the fight, was Ali reaching over the ropes to hit him.Young was a whiner.
That was certainly a very impressive display of durability by Young. If Foreman connected with a left-hook like that on Walcott, I imagine he'd stop him. On the other hand, I'd bet on Foreman not connecting with it; in fact, I think he was "lucky" (insofar as anyone in boxing is ever lucky) to connect with that hook.
One has to wonder: if Young could get inside Foreman's head and get the referee against him, what would a trickster and SOB like Walcott do? Foreman might have a near-death experience IN the ring in their fight, due to a heart-attack from frustration.
That was Morrison's best peformance, in my opinion. He paced himself well, used his advantages, and for once paid proper attention to his defence. A very underrated show by Tommy.
Walcott could be careless, though. Louis, Marciano and Charles all tagged him when his concentraion seemed to drop a bit. There's always a risk/chance that Foreman could as well.
