    Remember this fiasco in 1975?

Cosell calling the action and Ali taunting Big George.

This was a disgraceful episode in boxing history, and Foreman did some very strange things that day.

Always made me wonder about him. I could never rank him highly after that scene.

    Any thoughts on that day?

It seems like something out of a different era to me.

John L Sullivan, Bob Fitzsimmons, Jim Jeffries, Jack Johnson, were all involved in similar serial demolitions of non entities.

Well, say what you will, like I could actually care what you say.

Notice Frazier kept getting up like a true warrior instead of collapsing in a big, blubbery, disgusting one-time heap like the dope that was roped in Zaire.

    :yep

Frazier was a true warrior who only knew one way to fight, keep coming in,against Foreman ,he reminded me of those clockwork mice you wind up and let go ,they allways run into the skirting ,no matter how many times you put them down on the floor Frazier had the shortest prime of any Heavyweight Champion,he was Foreman 's bunny, but could beat guys that George would have a lot of trouble with, thats the way it goes . Try and be objective about it.

"Try and be objective about it."

Which I guess means....see it the way I see it.

Well, since you are dispensing advice, I'll give some of my own.

Try and be more perceptive about it.

Knowing one way to fight is sometimes synonymous with HAVING to fight one way.

Frazier...in his words "wanted to be a champion, and not just an old boy."

With his body type, he was very limited in the way he could fight in order to be a champion.

What do you think, do you think he was built to be a mover and dancer, and would reach his goal that way?

He HAD to fight that way if he wanted to be a champion. A style, btw, which lends itself to very short primes and windows of opportunity.

Ponder on all that, and write me a 500 word report by Friday. ;)

    Later.

Frazier allways came forward ,even when he was getting the **** punched out of him ,he had one gear and zero lateral movement,,no side to side, no feints ,no straight punches,no right cross to speak of,result a short career.Frazier actually started out at the PAL gym with a boxers style ,jabbing his way in ,but Durham moulded him into a swarming left hooker.Listen ,when you are tagged ,you can run or you can clinch, claim your opponent till your head clears, Frazier did neither,Hearns till later in his career didnt know how to clinch when hurt,Frazier never learned.Charge George Foreman ,or Liston and you get tagged and eventually stopped.Stylistically Frazier was cake for both of them. You can be a come forward swarmer ,but you need variety and plenty of head movement ,ala Duran ,Armstrong. Frazier, didnt have that kind of finesse ,thats why he was banged up in a lot of fights, every one was a war ,even the winning fights.Plenty of tall guys can fight inside ,Bowe was a good example ,do you think its just down to short guys charge in ,tall guys stand off?Liston had an 84 inch reach ,in his prime who mastered him inside?Tommy Burns had a longer reach than Jack Johnson, you are symplifying things too much.

About the Toronto thing. Just like a sparring session. Not good to judge Foreman on that. Look at Tyson's mishaps in sparring. Can't judge him on that.

Well this prove well to me, that if Marciano or Fraizer got out of the early going, They have a great chance in taking Foreman out imo.
Foreman blasted out the first 3 or or so guys and the remaining fighters went the distant. Foreman was pretty tired by that time.

    Which boxing needs at times.

It was no more a sideshow act than Ali against Inoki.

That one got a bit out of hand ,remember Wepner rabbit punching him as he was picked up like a doll? Ali spent time in the hospital after the Inoki farce having blood clots to his legs removed ,very bad judgement getting involved in that.

Ali screaming at the fighters from ringside and distracting the hell out of Foreman. The mean cold stare Foreman gave Ali from the ring. The dude that started beating Foreman with the same rope a dope technique Ali used while Ali laughed. These are my favorite parts. All in all, it was silly and Foreman just looked bad at the end but great to youtube late at night anyway.
