    Hey Sonny...
    Here's my take IMO.

    The Lyle fight was Jan/Feb 73 and Jerry came in looking chisled and mean.
    (this may have been his last GREAT fight)
    By the time he stepped in against Earnie he was starting to look a little "pear-ish" around the middle. There were also rumors starting to surface about his drinking & drug abuse which can't be totally dismissed and may have contributed to his fading physique.
    I still regard the Shavers fight as a fluke of sorts; even tho he's had almost 40 fights going in, Earnie still hadn't faced anyone even remotely close as seasoned as Quarry. He just never got going and I'm still not sure what hit him. Jerry was missing most of his punches when the fight was stopped.
    Early 74 he went down big-time from a big left-hook from journeyman Joe Alexander and, I think, was hurt more than he showed.
    Frazier 2? A fading Joe still has a much easier time than the first outing.

    Good post the Alexander kd was a serious wallop,Jerry was in decline as you say fleshy about the middle ,and hitting the bottle so I hear.
