Then u look between 2:33 to 2:40. Joe throws two big hooks yet George catches them both with his guard completely stopping them from landing with any power. I love Joe but even i will admit he had no major offensive weapon outside of the left hook. A good body shot right hand but hardly something that would stop top guys. Its just bizzare how bad a stylistic match up Foreman's was for Frazier. Not only could George hurt Joe with every possible punch - jab, right hand, right uppercut, left uppercut, and ironically the left hook - to make matters worse, Foreman turned into Willie Pep when it came to defending left hooks - Joe's one and only true power punch. Jesus.
Frazier was rocked at the time. It's hard to time punches when your head has an alarm whistle going off in it and your operating system is resetting. Earlier he was able to land his left hooks. Foreman was simply too big and tough for Frazier.
Not really, even earlier in the match his hooks were either fully blocked or just grazed past Foreman’s arms. Foreman’s defense was phenomenal in this match.
true though the earlier hooks weren't full power hooks. He was firing quick hooks without much on most of them in order to get into a rhythm.
Hi Buddy. Like the post ( as ever ) interesting that your goodself and many, many posters when discussing this fight referer to how Foreman was " all bad " for Frazier, " bad stylistically " or words to that effect, because let me tell you, nobody but nobody, was of that opinion when the fight was mooted, very few pundits, reporters, historians, predicted a win for Foreman, in fact the talk was more how long George would last, at that stage in his career, he was seen as slightly cumbersome, slow underfoot, Peralta had exposed him somewhat, he was fed too many patsy's was the refrain, whilst on the other hand Frazier was still being lauded for the FOTC, sure he had a couple since, Daniels and the rather, a bit too tough Stander, but he was viewed as unbeatable, I don't think we fully took into account the short and long term effect of the herculean effort the Ali fight took out of him, the Kingston Frazier was a rather fat fighter, that looked out of shape, I remember there was a interview with him a few days before the fight, he was outside by a pool, he looked heavy of face, sweating profusely,and during the piece, he drank from a huge bottle, after almost every sentence, he took long swigs from the bottle, wiser fans than me remarked that this was not a good look, he was taking on far too much water was the common consensus, but it was a huge shock when he was dismissed with such alacritty, I saw the fight live at the pictures at 4am, the whole place was stunned into silence, complete strangers were looking at each other and shaking their heads, so I offer myself a rue smile when I read that Foreman was all wrong for Frazier, he wasnt before the fight. stay safe dmt, chat soon buddy.
