He's supposed to have been a very hard trainer, but alleged to get badly overweight between fights. Seemed relaxed and in reasonably good condition at the end of the first match with Peralta. Not sure what to think about Young, since he failed to properly acclimate himself to the heat and humidity of Puerto Rico for the minimum three weeks. Definitely tired near the end of that five bout exhibition in Toronto. Was expending himself wastefully when Chuvalo appeared to be riding out the storm. Ali was in terrific condition for Kinshasa, and as good a championship distance heavyweight as there has ever been.

One instance where Big George did outlast an opponent was when he got the much older Lyle to succumb to fatigue as much as power in a brief but torrid war. (Foreman had just turned 27, while Ron was about to turn 35, a substantial eight year difference.) He also turned it on just when it looked like Frazier was about to rally in their rematch. However, both these events were just five round affairs.

The stoppage in round ten of the Peralta rematch may have been premature. That one was a fight for the vacant NABF Title, scheduled for the championship distance. If George had been forced to win over the 15 round limit, it might have been a real career changer. Ali may not have counted so much on wearing him out, as Foreman would have realized he couldn't knock everybody out. Peralta should have been Whitehurst to his Liston, Lowry to his Marciano, Bonavena to his Frazier.

Could have problems pacing himself, but seemed calm, measured and focused in the Frazier rematch and Norton defense.
