Which other Heavy weight title compares to it? A guy who lost the title almost twenty years previous, still on his feet at the end of the fight, against an unbeaten champ..crazy.
I think the modern era to a degree has shown us how deep into the 30s and 40s HWs can get. Holyfield was fighting Valuev at 43 or something? 100lbs difference in weight as a former 190lber… crazy! Wilder, Wlad, Ortiz, Fury, Vitali, Usyk, Parker and Zhang are all guys who seem to be capable of doing really good things in there mid late 30s and early 40s seems like a fighter being “old” in there 30s is a thing of the past.
We will probably have to wait for another breakthrough in training technology to do that. Something that also reverses other effects of aging.
I don’t know about that…but then we are essentially watching literal mutant super men fighting at this point. Not that I think they’re unbeatable (as most know I’d pick Louis to KO anyone today) it’s just that they’re now beyond natural human physiology without question! - How far? Eh, but still mutants, perhaps we’ll get 40k Space Marines 3000 years old a piece in the prize ring… one day.
That required an exceptionally **** fighter though, in Valuev. He made Vitali look like he deserved the nickname Sugar by comparison.
Not quite there but Foreman was competitive (or beat) Briggs a future title holder at like 49? A few months from 50 something like that.
Holmes obviously did it too. He was slightly more competitive than Foreman had been, but then again, elbowing your opponent in the face, which Foreman did not resort to, certainly helps.
Not really the point and still a feat, Valuev whatever he was, was a respectable contender and title holder “sh1t” I don’t think so… we aren’t all going to be Joe Louis give him his due as what he was, Valuev cashed in on his meal ticket but it made him formidable and Evander being competitive (possibly beating) a title holder who was over or about 100lbs heavier then him and near a foot taller is remarkable.
It'll probably happen... one day. It'll have to take a special kind of fighter to,an Holyfield, Holmes Or Foreman type. Not many of those guys come along often.
Oh **** off Ney lol the scared cow Foreman was as dirty as anybody else who earned the distinction… blatant kidney punching, shoving and whatever else were all in his arsenal from the 70s to the 90s (I’d be unsurprised to see a lot of elbowing if I was looking) @cross_trainer pointed this out, we make a lot of noise about Evander Holyfield butting and it’s not really factored into a fight unless it’s a jokey sort of way, Foreman’s illegal albeit effective shoving however is just part of the game? Kek This forum really has its darlings.
I say give Evander his headbutt / groin punch combo, give Foreman his sumo shoves, and let a thousand flowers bloom.
If you think it was a product of Holyfield being that good, I suppose. I regard Valuev as that poor. Belts are like participation trophies these days, having one proves nothing.
Because that’s what they did in the ring! If Evander butted and groin punch combo’d Golota or AJ that’d psyche them out or play a part? People credit Ali with “mind games” outside the ring - what if Evander billy goats Foreman? then starts digging below the bel? that’s as much a way as getting George to kamikaze as Ali allegedly driving it by saying mean stuff or whatever lol.
