Forget Anderson Silva for a minute... and give a hand to Frankie Edgar

eh he beat a lazy and stubborn Penn, who looked like he rather be anywhere but in the cage. Hopefully he'll come in motivated in his next fight,

 

No excuses for Penn. Edgar was simply better on his feet. Showed superior movement... and outworked Penn. There was nothing in that fight that should lead anyone to believe that Penn will easily beat Edgar should they fight again. It isn't like Penn would be Edgar down or anything. Edgar is a much better wrestler. Congrats to Edgar.

 

:happy Go Edgar! I always like a good underdog story. Thought Penn was going win the fight for sure going into it.

 

Penn should've realized after the second round that his gameplan wasn't working. He didn't try to adjust at all and implement anything different. It was a boxing match for 99% of the fight and Penn was consistently beat to the punch.

 

I hear the results before watching the fight. A few things.

I expected to see more from Edgar really, I kinda thought he didn't do enough to take the belt. BJ didn't do anything great either, but I could see all first 3 rounds going to BJ, thought he was more effective in his boxing. But no protest either way here, thought Edgars movement threw BJ off, and was SHOCKED at how tired BJ looked between rounds. It's not always "an excuse" to say BJ didn't look himself. Look at him in the Diego and Florian fights, then this one. He was just much better conditioned in those fights and it's not like Edgar was wearing him out....all 3 fights were basically kickboxing matches.

 

Thank godness for Frank Edgar. Its about time things got shook up in one of UFCs dominated divisions.

 

It may not always be "an excuse", but it's get a little old. If Penn doesn't have the discipline to come into every fight in the best shape he can possibly be, then maybe we have to stop talking about him with such awe. A true legend and P4P great doesn't sometimes come to a fight in shape and sometimes not.
His conditioning has been criticized in the past, and he's had every chance to do something about it. Besides, all we've heard since his loss to GSP is how amazing his conditioning has been, and he's learned his lesson from past fights, and blah blah blah.

 

I hear ya dude. I just make the point because I think he is definitely capable of beating the crap out of Edgar in a rematch.
