Thanks for nothing yet again Dana you fat scumbag.... he says he is an MMA fan but he must be the only MMA fan that would say no to this fight... Anderson is his `main man` right now & he obviously sees Jones as his `man of the future` if Anderson wins then the next biggest thing in UFC & its invincability is shattered & Anderson doesn`t have too many years left himself to fly the p4p flag..... if Jones wins then the aura of Silva being unbeatable gets shattered & Dana pins his hopes on a young Jones as the pride of the UFC & Mr invincible. White is not a big risk taker, he is businessman first & MMA fan second... Anderson v Jones is clearly the most fascinating fight in MMA right now (& one of all time as well) because something will happen which will be amazing regardless of who wins... but Dana has made his intentions clear :-(
I don't really agree with what's been said so far. Jones has the biggest dimensions of any lightheavyweight ever, once he has actually cleared out his division (ie: beaten the next guys in line like Hendo and Rashad) he should be taking that enormous frame to heavyweight to try and become one of the greatest fighters ever, not fighting a middleweight. Jones's future is up, not down, and his tests will come from higher, not lower.
While most agree Fedor is the GOAT (as I do) there are a few that think its Anderson Silva, what better way to show that by stepping up & beating a man like Jon Jones ?... that would be an ATG statement, even if he lost, that would only enhance his legacy... lets not forget, its currently Silva, not Jones thats ranked p4p no1... did the older, smaller p4p champion Pernell Whitaker knock back the chance to prove his greatness beyond dispute vs the younger, bigger, unbeaten, future p4p star who was also a big favourite in Oscar DLH ?... NO, he took the challenge because thats what real legends do. This is thee fight to be made & for the record, I`d pick Anderson Silva by KO.
Silva vs GSP would be the more meaningful fight for the era, considering Silva and GSP have been champions in neighbouring divisions since the mid 2000s, and not just in the past six months. Trust me, Jones vs Silva would go exactly like this: Ding-ding Takedown Elbows Finished. Jon Jones is not Chael Sonnen. He finishes. Brutally. It'd be a one-sided disappointment. Despite how highly I rate Silva and how much I prefer him to jones, it's a NIGHTMARE stylistic match-up for him and so pretty much an unwinnable fight, barring a crane-kick Hail Mary while Jones goes for his legs. After that 1st round with Machida, Jones won't want none of The Spider in the stand-up stakes.
Dana White is just making excuses to the media. The fans are dying to see both GSP-Silva at 185 and/or Silva-Jones at 205. Silva's age is all the more reason to make these fights now when he is still on his game. Dana White would love to put on these fights also because it would be a money making bonanza for them. The bottom line is that GSP wants none of Anderson Silva at 185 and Silva wants none of Jones at 205. Thats the real reason why these fights will never happen.
I don't see why GSP would be scared of Anderson. GSP has seen Sonnen dominate Silva for 4 rounds with takedowns and top control, GSP has even seen Travis Lutter successfully taking down the Spider. Takedowns and top control are GSP's bread and butter, and if Georges let his weight go up naturally I believe he'd be a decent-sized middleweight much like Yushin Okami. Don't get me wrong, I personally would strongly favour Silva by KO, but all I'm saying is that GSP himself must look at Anderson and think the stylistic match-up plays into his hands (the same cannot be said for Silva looking at Jones at all).
Whenever asked GSP ALWAYS sidesteps the question. He doesn't want the fight. If he did the fight would be made. Silva and Dana White would be all for it.
:deal A lot of good posts on this thread Bones vs Anderson is a ****ing dream match, two unstoppable fighters on a totally different level from anyone else, it will be an complete farce if it doesnt take place
Sadly this is very true I dont really blame GSP cause hes not a natural mw, he would be destroyed. But Anderson's avoidance of Jones is not what people want to see from a true ATG. Andersons a damn big 205er - just look at him in with Griffin (whos a huge 205er) He should be fighting Bones not some saps who aint fit to carry his jock
shows everybody why MMA will never be as big as boxing when just one person holds all the power in dana white :hat
Dana White once said if theres one man who could 2 tittles simultaneously in 2 weight classes its Anderson Silva.......Well LETS SEE IT!
:deal Dana knows Silva doesn't want this fight and is only making excuses for him for some reason. I think both situations are pretty similar, GSP and Silva could both move up but it's not in the best interest of their careers/legacy. they'd both take the risk of brutal defeat.
Big difference is Anderson's proved not only that he can fight at the weight comfortably, but that he's a friggin monster at it. Knocking a big 205er out with a backward jab :scaredas: Like said earlier, people want to see fighters - esp legendary fighters - taking risks. Risks earn fighters massive respect win or lose
