See, I adore Garcia and rate him highly but I think for me he's perhaps 'too' textbook to be special if that makes sense. Like he's excellent but he doesn't do anything that out of the ordinary to make him in that truly special tier. Or am I maybe being harsh?

Could put Usyk in as well but I've got those four guys ahead of the pack.

I understand that but IMO his skill level and good fundamentals is what allows him to move up in weight and be successful. Most people see Mikey as a guy with a good jab and good power I see that but I also see a guy with a very underrated ring IQ. He does alot of good subtle things in the ring.

He is supremely skilled, there's no doubt about it. His balance and footwork smoothness is second to none. However when looking at his past few performances, he's had his share of issues. Against Marriaga he sustained a cut and a little mouse under his eye. Nothing major but certainly noticeable. I'd say he needs to tighten up his defense. In that fight he was maybe showing off a little bit too much, but I don't expect a P4P #1 fighter to be sustaining that kind of noticible facial damage in a fight like that. Then in his last fight he was knocked down. Having mouses / cuts under your eye and getting knocked down vs guys who aren't considered P4P fighters has me questioning whether he really deserves to be P4P #1. I ask you the same question I asked earlier. How can you have Lomachenko P4P #1 ahead of a guy like Canelo when he got dropped in his last fight and sustained an injury? Canelo has never been dropped in his entire career. Please address this.

I'm not debating that in terms of pure footwork / movement skill Lomachenko is in a league of his own, he's been trained at an extremely high level to give him supreme balance and fluid smooth footwork. And don't get me wrong, Linares is no walk in the park, but that flash knockdown still has me pegging him down a notch when compared to other fighters like a Canelo or a Mikey Garcia.

I agree that Mikey Garcia is definitely more "basic" than Lomachenko, but he also seems to be much less vulnerable to knockdowns and / or getting hit flush than Lomachenko due to his style. Mikey seems more "in control" during his fights and he's certainly more fundamentally sound than Lomachenko who has a tendency to showboat or over do it trying to do too much whereas Mikey stays more in the moment / punch to punch.

I don't think there's any wrong answer when you are comparing Canelo, Mikey, Lomachenko and Crawford. There's an argument for each of these guys being P4P #1, they are all great fighters, but when it comes to fundamentals and all around skill I just can't put Lomachenko up there with Canelo and Mikey. Footwork yes, Lomachenko is #1, but in areas like defense and punch variety he's not on that level.

Yeah, true enough. It's not just his jab for me, his 1-2 is ****ing sublime. It's a shame he's going to get wrecked by Spence because there is so much to do in and around his proper weight

hes got the best 1-2 in the game. people dont understand the timing, setting up and positioning involved in delivering that simple combo consistently without getting timed yourself. they think its just a matter of choosing to throw it or not.

His level of concentration and preparation is second to none in the sport. The question is can Spence control the range with his jab and can he land big punches on Mikey. In Mikey's last fight he dealt with a fighter with an even longer reach than Spence in Easter. It took a few rounds for him to neutralize that jab and find ways around it. I think fighting Easter prepared Mikey well for Spence. The big question mark is whether or not Spence will be able to time Mikey and land big shots on him. Because if Mikey can deal with Spence's power, I think he has the ability to out point Spence like he has everybody else. But it won't be easy.

a lot of what mikey does, is made possible by the respect his punches are given once they taste em, those that dont, find themselves tits up on the canvas. spence will not show his punches the same respect and will be looking to trade at every opportunity, knowing that the kind of power mikey has shown, is not the kind of power to trouble him. spence will be all about letting strength and size be the deciding factor, mikey will have to box the fight of his life.
i want to pick mikey, because i think he is more skilled, but spence is a phenomenal fighter at 147. and make no mistake, spence is a highly skilled boxer as well, even though its been in his best interest to bring the pressure throughout his career. he knows you cant match him in offence and pace, you will start to wilt.
