Did anyone else have Chavez narrowly winning the fight even without the stoppage? I will have to rewatch the fight, but I dont remember it as the dominating effort by Taylor that people made it out to be. I remember a lot of close rounds with Chavez landing the harder punches throughout. It was a close fight and very hard fought but I think this fight could be viewed a couple different ways.

I had Taylor ahead, by around 7-4 going into the 12th. Most people will tell you that Taylor was winning something like 9-2 going into the 12th.

What a fight. Probably one of the best of all time.

3:40 to 4:00 shows incredible skill on both.

And yes Chavez deserved to win. Have you not seen the recent Enzo knockout. You don't send fighters out dazed. They just get KTFO again and its very dangerous.

Dam right, the best fight of the 90s.
Chavez showed will, heart & toughness on another level in this fight.

    Give it up !

Look at the state of Taylor at the end of the fight.... & you want the ref to wave Chavez in to finish him ?... behave yourself.

If the bell saved Taylor there would be at least as much controversy that the real winner was beaten by a clock as opposed to Taylor.
Lets give 1 of the best p4p fighters that ever lived credit for coming thru the hardest fight of his career & proving he had the heart of a champion & then some.

Enough with your bull**** please... if Steele wanted to stop it as bad as you say, he would have stopped it as soon as Taylor hit the canvas (he went down heavily, perfect chance for Steele) or when he was using the ropes to get up... he was loking into the mans face asking him if he was OK.

    Chavez TKO12 Taylor

I don't think they had the 10 second warning in this fight could have been a different outcome.

I wouldnt argue with your scoring, 7-4 can be justified, but if most people had it 9-2 I would say most people dont know how to score fights or are very bias. If Taylor was alloed to finished the fight and got the decision, there would be a lot of people saying Chavez was robbed imo.

Of course it was a good fight, however it's impossible to seperate the fight from the controversy.

This is why people shouldn't judge a fight by the highlights because the highlights vid makes it seem as if Taylor was still there at the end. The full fight shows a very different story, as you have said.

It's my experience that highlighted videos or fights with time edited out are usually edited to favor one fighter over the other. If a video like that becomes popular on youtube you'll be surprised to see how many people have a skewed sense of what really happened.
