I always thought it was a premature stoppage, too, until I read referee Ron Lipton's remarks on a boxing website. Lipton said that when he looked into Ruddock's eyes, one pupil was huge, and the other pupil was tiny. That is a sign of serious neurological trouble. Couple this with the rubbery condition of Ruddock's knees, and it's clear that the stoppage was correct.
