    Everybody knows Whitaker-Chavez, Lewis-Holyfield1 or Louis-Walcott1.

What about some lesser known examples?

Like Morales-Espadas1 when even HBO team didn't score the fight for Morales yet the judges' verdict was unanimous in favour of Erik.

    Whitaker-Rivera 1
    Griffith-Rodriguez (pick one)
    Ray Robinson-Galivan 1, Tommy Bell
    Larry Holmes-Carl Williams
Chris Byrd-Oquendo (Byrd isn't really great though)
    Marciano-Lastarza/Lowry
    Louis-Godoy/Farr
    Micky Walker-Tiger Flowers
    Freitas-Casamayor/Raheem (not really great)
    Corrales-Casamayor
    Castillo-Stevie Johnson 1 and 2 - both close
    Benn-Malinga 1
Eubank-Benn2, Watson 1, Malinga, Ray Close, Rochiagani, Collins - I was too young to score most of these properly but Watson 1 was a certain robbery
Toney -McCallum 1 and 2, Griffin 1 and 2, Reggie Johnson, Tiberi, Thadzi, Rahman 1, Peter 1, Oquendo

Some will be more well known than others

Do you think Raheem won that fight ?
I never got what that judge saw to give the decision to Raheem....He didn´t do nothing in that fight but holding.....Freitas at least tried more.....ugly fight by the way...

I think it was here in Classic that someone said that Eddie Perkins had a couple(maybe more than a couple actually) as well

just have a scour through Bert Gilroy's record it's a blatant criminal offence against the man... ALL in an attempt to nullify the man.

Gilroy vs McCleave - DQ 1943, near caused a riot...

Gilroy vs Pat O'Connor, a top contender- Draw 10, 1943. with Gilroy ahead at the end of the 8th, the referee walks over to raise O'Connors hand in Victory, the crowd goes mad and the Ref is doubly marred as it is a 10 round fight, only after the Ref's embarrasment the contest is awarded a draw, save for this mortification Gilroy was schedualled for another loss. O'Connor was later picked up by Connie McCarthy and moved States side - Gilroy beat him 7 (8) times, this mock draw was the best he ever got against Bert.

Gilroy vs Mills - stopped cut eye Gilroy 1944, though Bert was leading on points, Boxing News' headline was Mills recieves a lesson in Boxing and Footwork, the two would never be matched again though Gilroy was his No.1 contender and official challenger 1945-48, Mills NEVER defended that title, not once in 8 years.

Gilroy vs Hawkins - pts loss, most scribe's that didn't have him winning thought a draw would have been a fairer decision, even though it was a flat performance from Bert. Hawkins was No.2 middleweight in the world at that time!

Gilroy was also robbed of a victory over Ginger Sadd, being declared a draw, Gilroy pushing his way into a place of leading & official challenger to McAvoy 1938/39, he would later beat Sadd two more times! Sadd was No.9 in the world 1938.

though No.1 from 1939-1948, Gilroy was DROPPED from the position of 'official' leading challenger twice, 1942 and again in 1944, TOP reporter Ewan Wellwould challenged the board as did Gilroys manager, but of course to No Avail.

Bert's only real losses were to 3 Heavyweights, or at the end of his 18 year career. Two to Bruce Woodcock, two to Ken Shaw, the first questioned 1945, and one to the French Pole and champion Stephan Olek, 4 round tko - Bert quit, as he was struck with 'fever' in S. Africa and broke out in over 20 boils and blisters, totally _ucked and fatiqued for any fight.

He lost a further fight against Cerdan in 1947, on two weeks notice, trying like hell to cut weight, 48 hrs without food and water before the fight, he's still 6 lbs over, Bert was beat in the negotiations and by the first punch... he remembers nothing of the fight. Bert hadn't been anywhere near the middlweight limit since 1944, bar his one meeting with Hawkins in 1945!

all in Bert suffered 6 robberies, 3 losses and 3 draws, 4 more losses were surrounded in controversy, not the outcome pursay, but the leading too it.

He was twice (2 times), dropped from the position of official contender and title challenger... No.1 for 10 years and No Title fight...

his career was all but silenced (less ink than any TOP Contender of his generation, even less than fighters below him, see Mike Delisa's reveiw), ALL bar one of these fights took place in TOP English venues and many at notable Queensbury Club, the ref's were always inside boys like todays British referees Dave Parry & O'Connor and co. they were part of the circle that travelled to the States to see top matches with Solomons & Broadribb -

this was all done to keep Mills on Top and known to the Americans.
and only for a World War they could have NEVER gotten away with it...

    read Gilroy's book,
better yet get a copy of his Scrapbook with the ACTUAL Reports, Ratings, Commentaries, Questionable Decisions and out & out Crimminal practice in a Professional Regulated Sport!!!

the MOST Cheated athlete in British sporting History.

I thought he did the cleaner punching and much better defence over the second half of the fight. Very scrappy and close but round by round I think Raheem edged it. Raheem certainly did deserve the decision over Juarez too. Raheem was unlucky in some ways but too boring all in all

As a Brazilian were you close follower/fan of Freitas, what were your thoughts on his career? I was a fan of his at 130lbs, would have liked to have seen him in with Hamed (was talked about) or Morales. I don't blame him for quiting against Corrales who was destroying him but it was a pity he gave up against Diaz. He might have done better going to war with Corrales instead of trying to fight him on the backfoot

Good call, forgot that one, I think I called robbery at the time, close one though
