NAME some fighters who were good to very good (at each division) but are often forgotten about even by hardcore fans.
Zack Padilla was having a good run at 140 pounds in the early/mid 90s before he was forced to retire.
I saw Scotty Olson fight in a title elimination bout, dominate for 4 rounds break his right hand and lose a decision. The other guy was Gilberto Roman's brother and got slaughtered by Julio Cesar Borboa in the title fight. Roman's brother had no business being in a title eliminator.
I saw a picture of him the other day on Facebook- we have several friends in common- and he looks like he is eating very well.
Lockport Jimmy Duffy looks to have been a legitimate all time great. There’s never been a thread on him (probably on any forum), and his name has very rarely been mentioned (usually as resume filler for McFarland or Leonard or whomever). But you hear people mention a guy like Wes Ramey ad nauseam. Hell, that entire era was at least as good, if not better, than the Golden 40s but you don’t hear nearly as much about the many, many great contenders. Meanwhile Cocoa Kid is a household name to the historical boxing fanatics.
Not totally forgotten, but not talked about as much, Aaron the Hawk Pryor. He has a great record and people kind of forget about him when talking about the best fighters at 140.
As a whole, the mid-80's lightweight scene, which, around '84-'85, had the following names in the rankings at the same time.... Rosario Ramirez Mancini Bramble Arroyo Paul Camacho Blake Crawley Baltazar And many of them actually fought each other. Very exciting division back then.
Carlos Palomino Pipino Cuevas Jose Luis Ramirez Miguel Angel Gonzales Terry Norris Donald Curry Julio Cesar Vasquez
