What are some fights that can be counted as "forgotten gems", less talked entertaining bouts. Doesn't have to be big names, as long as the fight was entertaining. It could be a proper war, tactical chess match but with good action, it could be a fight with drama and few knockdowns or any other way you find it to be an exciting match. Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Torres was a ridiculous fight, great action and knockdowns almost every round and a finish too. What a fight. Always liked to watch Cotto's fight. Torres impressed me too, although admittedly its the only bout of him that I have seen. Ridiculous action in this bout. Leo Santa Cruz vs Eric Morel, very active fight, no dull moments at any point! Both throwing leather all the time but Santa Cruz getting better of it, some brutal body shots here. Really like watching LSC fights, always active, throwing a lot of shots and mixing some great body shots there too. Santa Cruz did better and better each round and in the end it was too much for Morel who showed good heart in this fight. Leo took his legs out of the game with constant pressure and wore him down with the body shots. He couldnt go on after after the fifth round but cannot be blamed for that, he took some real punishment there. Very fun fight while it lasted, every round was filled with action. In the five rounds, LSC threw over 500 punches, landing almost 300. Arturo Gatti vs Ivan Robinson (1st) was a great one as well, fantastic action, really like Gatti, may he rest in peace. Robinson really impressed me here. He won the fight (both fights actually, but im talking about the first fight here). Whatever happened to the guy? This was a fight of the year 1998, so I was thinking that people know about the fight, but wanted to add this anyways since its not talked about too often. Not exactly news for anyone, but damn Gatti could take some horrific punishment, he had a heart of a lion and nobody can question that. Kevin Kelley vs Derrick Gainer (1st) was a crazy fight too. Kelley had his share of wars. After the first rounds, the fight started heating up, and they kept hurting each other in there. Momentum switched at the times but in the end Kelley came victorious, giving everything he had and it was enough to get a KO win in the 8th round. Astonishing fight really. Might be not-so-important thread, I guess there are other similar threads, but wanted to make this so we can all recommend great fights for each other and at the same time, some of them being new for some of us so we can enjoy new fights that we haven't seen before.
I will always throw Salido vs Vargas in their as a modern day master piece display of infighting. That fight essentially finished both their careers at the top level.
One cool fight I can think about which I have found nearly impossible to find online involves Kermit Cintron believe it or not.. It was Cintron vs Estrada on a small network.. It was a cool fight because Estrada was pressuring the hell out of Cintron and there was a lot of back and forth until one simple right hand changed everything and estrada got stopped.. Typical display of power where one punch changes the fight.. Cintron still banged a little at the time.
That was a good fight, I remember clearly Estrada trying hard that time...lost mainly to size advantage From the same time frame... Antonio Margarito vs Sebastian Lujan Fulgencio Zuniga vs David Lopez Acelino Freitas vs Jorge Barrios
Bellew-Makabu Bellew-McKenzie Back n forth action multiple KD's, two Warriors laying it all on the line
Tim Austin vs Rafa Marquez Not a war but was a great tactical fight. A boxer/puncher vs a combo/puncher. Austin wanting to stay outside and jab jab jab left. Marquez trying to get inside to throw beautiful combos. First rounds were awarded to Austin's range. Marquez grabs a couple of middle rounds. Tim comes back to snatch round 6 and 7th. Marquez starts fast in round 8 only to get buzzed hard with a left. He fights threw it and finally has Tim in range for combo punching as Tim was trying to finish. Down goes Tim from a wonderful combo, up at 9. Marquez follows it up and the ref stops it soon after. Was always high on Tim Austin. Really good boxer. That was Rafa's beginning of being a higher caliber fighter.
Ray Oliveira - Ben Tackie I was there, Friday Night Fights. It was unreal. Fight of year type stuff. Mickey Ward - Emmanuel Burton (Augustus) Another Friday Night Fights FOTY type fight. James Toney - Vassiiy Jirov I believe IT WAS FOTY
