    Jimmy Bivins

He was born on December, the 6th, in 1919 in Dry Branch, GA, USA. He was ca. 5´11 tall and weighed during his pro career between 154 and 195 lbs. His managers were Wilfred Carter and Claude Shane. Pysically, he was very strong, that´s why he could even fight with the best HW´s. He started his career as a Light Middleweight, but three years later he fought in the Light Heavyweight Division yet. His most success he celebrated as a LHW, all in all, he defeated great/ very good fighters like Christoforidis, Burley, Muscato, Valentino, Murray, Maxim, Pastor, Bettina, Marshall, Savold, Thompson, Wallace, etc., he has one of the best resumes ever, and the most ironic and sad thing is, that he never got the chance to fight for a World Title. He retired in 1955, after a decision- win against the good and ranked DeJohn. Jimmy Bivins was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999.

I think he was a cracking fighter. He's got a win over absolutley prime Burley and a win over a very good charles. Underated in my view.

Exactly, you´re right, he is VERY underrated. Just look at the names he beat at MW, LHW and HW. Great fighter IMO...

Louis-Conn may be my favourite fight, but Louis should have taken on Bivins instead of Conn in ConnII in my view. He was due that much.

Agreed. Btw, against which ATG´s HW´s would you give Bivins a chance? :think

Not many. I don't think he was a "natural" at that weight...you could maybe make a case for him "out-cuting" someone like Hollyfield or Liston over 12 but he can only fight one way agains the best at this weight and can't afford a mistake.

I give him a chance against anyone at any lower weights, even guys like Hagler, Langford or Jones.
