Nick Wells Southpaw 5'10" 200 to 220 lbs Nick Wells was born February 11, 1951 in Fort Worth, Texas. Wells attended Polytechnic High School, where he was a standout sports star. Growing up Wells was big in the Texas boxing scene; winning the Texas Golden Gloves Championship 5 times along with the Texas State Heavyweight Championship 3 times. Wells joined the Air Force right out of high school, and immediately earned the reputation as a fearless boxer. In the Air Force, Wells won the Air Force Championship 5 times (1972-1976). Wells also won the CISM World Military Boxing Championships in the Heavyweight division at the age of 22. The same year, 1972, that Wells won the CISM World Military Boxing Championships, he captured the National AAU Heavyweight Championship. The following year he captured the Interservice Heavyweight Championship. Wells also won the Interservice Championship in 1975. 21 fights as a professional, winning 14, losing 7. 13 wins by KO along with 5 loses by KO. In 1976, Wells turned pro. Winning his first 4 fights, all within the distance. Wells suffered his first defeat in his 5th fight to the more established Mike Koranicki. Wells then strung together five straight knockout wins before being dealt his 2nd professional loss, this time to G.G. Maldanado. Wells fought on, this time winning a split decision against the unheralded Curtis Gaskins, before eventually dropping 3 straight fights. Wells went on to four straight victories, then finished his career with back to back defeats. Wells spent the next 30 plus years serving as a fireman in his native Texas. Nick Wells has received major praise from boxing pundits around the globe, even Big George Foreman said that Nick Wells was the 2nd best heavyweight from Texas, placing Wells behind Jack Johnson and ahead of himself. Accomplishments: 5 Time winner of the All Air Force Boxing Championship. 5 Time Golden Gloves Champion from Fort Worth Texas. Holds amateur wins over the likes of: Larry Holmes KO-3 Larry Holmes KO-1 Amateur record: 189-18 with 110 knockouts, 72 in the first round. Five-time Fort Worth Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion. Two-time Star-Telegram Texas State Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion. Texas State Heavyweight Champion in 1969, 1970 and 1971. 1972 National AAU Heavyweight Champion. 1972 CISM World Military Boxing Championships Heavyweight Gold Medalist. All-Air Force Heavyweight Champion in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976. Nevada State Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion in 1972 and 1973. Interservice Heavyweight Champion in 1973 and 1975.
