I though Rosario's shot might have broken Viruet's jaw. Not quite a carbon copy of LaPorte-Lockridge though. Davey Pearl could easily have counted 20 over Rocky, while Ed was back on his feet in less than ten seconds. (Amazingly, issboxWRECK does correctly record Rosario-Viruet as a TKO, and not a clean KO. Then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day.)
lol: I've only seen a youtube clip of the Rosario/Viruet stoppage, I think it cut off shortly after the knockdown. I assumed Viruet was close to death as opposed to close to being on his feet I guess.
Bobby Dykes - He beat Kid Gavilan, Joey Giardello, Gil Turner, Lester Felton, Joey Giambra, Joey DeJohn, drew with Holly Mims and lost a close MD to Ray Robinson whilst being outweiged by 10 pounds and ran Kid Gavilan close in another loss too. Isaac Logart - he beat Gil Turner, Virgil Akins, Gaspar Ortega, Ramon Fuentes, Joe Miceli, Jorge Fernandez, Ruddell Stitch, drew with Luis Federico Thompson, Blair Richardson and lost close decisions to Emile Griffith & Don Jordan amongst others. Bobby Boyd - Beat Gene Fullmer, Eduardo Lausse, Holly Mims, Rocky Castellani, Italo Scortichini, Neal Rivers and Tony Anthony.
Bobby Boyd, that's an interesting one. Can you tell us anything else about him? Is there any film about of him?
There is a bit of film of Bobby Boyd about: his fights with Eduardo Lausse, Holly Mims, George Benton, Neal Rivers and Jimmy Beecham are out there for sure. Perhaps some other fights are out there as well. I haven't seen the man fight, but I will shortly try and track down his fights with Lausse and Mims and give you my impressions if you care to hear them :good
Yes, I'd be interested because he was one of the top fighters of his day that fought them all. I've been meaning to post a thread about him myself, find out a bit more about him. I don't even know what he looks like. :good
Just found this against another one of those forgotten other contenders Spider Webb. Unfortunately it doesn't show Boyd at his best. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcsM1puxCL4[/ame]
Just a few..... Packey McFarland, Dave Shade, Ace Hudkins, Billy Petrolle,Lloyd Marshall. of course Billy Graham, who I saw several times.....
l Frances Bobby Boyd Was a top middle weight in the 1950s...Boyd was aggresive and a crowd pleaser...He fought in an age of great middleweights bu todays standards, such as Henry Hank,Holly Mims, Spider Webb, Rory Calhoun, Joey Giardello,[ who I saw several times], kod Bobby Boyd inthe 5th round in 1956...No shame there...He wouid be a top contender today, no doubt......
Has Bernard Docusen been mentioned? great boxer, top fighter, took Sugar ray to the limit, when he was #1 contender for a while, his son says Ray wanted no part of him. Black Murderer's Row also top and now forgotten by most...
I've just recently done a lot of corrections and expansions on Ace Hudkins's record on Boxrec. Same with Ike Weir. Give 'em a look :good
