I rememberr watching that fight live, If i remember correctly didn't Grant do a jump into the air at the stoppage of the fight , and slammed onto the canvas on his back very heavily like some kind of WWF , slam technique.. LOL.. Mike looked damn promising back then.. I saw him only 5 weeks ago in Las Vegas training in Tocco's Gym on his own.. his reflexes are quite shot at , and he looks a shadow of his former self....... He in fact said that the worse mistake he ever made was joining up with Teddy Atlas, he said he made him feel very worthless, and he lost a lot of confidence in himself in that period in his career.. mirageboxing.blogspot.com
You're correct. Grant ran across the ring and leapt into the air...then came crashing down onto his side. Afterwards he said that he had the sudden urge to vault over the top rope and into the crowd like a body-surfer, he was so ecstatic with the win, but at the last split-second realised that 6'7" 250lbs of humanity hurtling through the air onto the poor timekeeper or someone wouldn't be the most health & safety conscious thing to do. So he just pulled back in time, crashing down to the mat instead. As before, I'm sorry to hear about Grant and can't disagree with his thoughts. Wish I could do something to help out.
ive always been a fan of the infamous alex stewart-george foreman fight ruddock vs bonecrusher smith david izon vs derrick jefferson corey sanders vs darvarryl williamson
Man, Jefferson just pounded the crap out of Izon...but Izon outlasted him. Izon was always brave, too brave for his own good arguably as this fight pretty much was the end for both of them as contenders. Neither were the same after. One of the tightropes to walk in boxing. The crowd will roar for a toe-to-toe slugfest. But they're not the ones having to live with the possible consequences.
I watched Sanders v Williamson with John Ruiz a day or two before his fight with Kirk Johnson... at Mandalay Bay.... it was like watching a Godzilla movie, Davarryll gave away almost 100lbs.. mirageboxing.blogspot.com
Oyebola [rip]/Welch I: A ******* of a brawl on the Lewis/Jackson undercard. Bruno/EklundI: The Bomber has a shaky moment early, before laying out the huge Swede in the fourth Etienne/Clay Bey: Both let the punches flow, in this exciting 10 rounder. Snipes/Washington: Both on the deck, Snipes gets up to win in four. Ruddock/Smith: Razor decked early, stops the Bonecrusher in seven. Mercer/Damiani: On the verge of his first defeat, Mercer lands the mother of all punches, to obliterate the Italians nose and chances in the ninth. Ribalta/Sims: Jose has to get off the deck twice to outpoint Sims. Ribalta/Seldon; The then undefeated Atlantic City Express, is almost derailed early, by the big Cuban; but gets off the floor to keep his '0' with a victory in the third.
I re-watched Page --Coetzee a few times last week. That was a real good performance by Page that night. He's definately a guy that brings his A game when he fights for a title. Title defenses and other fights are when the B game shows up. I thought he was just being brought over to South Africa to be a victim to Coetzee and didn't think Page would be a good road warrior. Wrong. He fought a tough fight and the bout had a lot of big exchanges in there. And that Page had good whiskers and absorbed better. That was a brutal left uppercut Page threw to end the fight and a seldom seen heavyweight punch. The bout is tarnished because it went long after 3 minutes, but Coetzee was badly hurt and saved by the bell in the 6th & floored in the 7th. He was not going to win the fight.Good action fight tho & Coetzee landed shots that would've got a lot of guys out of there.
Andrew Golota vs Riddick Bowe II gets my vote. Yes, for the majority it was one-sided but Bowe did knock Golota down and have him badly hurt. He also landed quite a lot of heavy shots throughout, and never gave up. It was edge of your seat type of excitement. Drama in abundance. Shame it ended with a low blow D/Q, but man...what a fantastic fight. One of my favorites, to be honest.
Bowe v Golota 2 was a classic.. Bowe whipped his body into amazing looking shape and was quite cut.. But had lost a lot of water in doing so quick in camp... He was drained and lucky to escape with his record still in tact.. even if his jewels weren't.. mirageboxing.blogspot.com
Bowe-Coetzer was a good hard scrap but the ending annoyed me. Much like Danny Williams-Michael Sprott II. Herbie did quite well against Bowe - when he was vertical! McCall-Holmes, I thought McCall deserved it. He sleepwalked through the first few rounds but woke up just in time to save his title, the big assault in the 9th in particular seemed to take the fight out of Holmes. McCall didn't wake up in time in his next defence.
