botha/moorer was a very interesting fight as botha puts on a couragous fight against the the former champion moorer. botha, who is such a hard fighter to figure out while using the simple trusty 1-2's and nice uppercuts to the body, eventually get worn down by the precision punching of moorer. frazier/quarry 2- it was like both guys where cut from the same cloth. frazier just stronger, but quarry just as mentally tough. tua/izon- izon's tree trunk legs absorb all of the bombardment that tua was giving and beating tua to the punch with straighter punches until tua went up a gear in the championship rounds. foreman/savarese- savarese comes as a unknown with a record of no known names but gives foreman all he could handle face to face in dropping a arguable split decision. axel stewart/ezra sellers- it was billed on youtube as the must watch heavy weight fight of all time. i think each guys goes down like three times, with each getting blasted into each side of the ropes. it was exiting.
Great choices! Especially Botha-Moorer and Foreman-Savarese, well worth a mention. Botha-Moorer is a real good one because he was just so determined and durable. Moorer was quicker, more skilled, better puncher, better mover you name it but Botha always had that blue-collar style work ethic and he just kept on managing to get through and make Moorer uncomfortable. He put it all on the line and forced Moorer to raise his game as well, until Botha had absolutely nothing left in the tank and Moorer swarmed all over him. If I ever get into a barroom fight, it's someone like Botha I'd want at my side.
Great stuff, i was going to mention this fight and Page - Tillis too among others. Against all expectations Page fought Coetzee flat footed and showed his own right hand could very much mix it with Coetzee's vaunted delivery. Not long after this fight some experts pondered whether Page had the best whiskers in the division. He took some absolute bombs off one of the most lauded Heavyweight punchers of the decade.
What was the story with Page's two knockout losses to Mark Wills, of all people? Cuts or injury retirement or something?
Over the hill, lazy, pathetic etc. Big waste of talent. I think i did see one of those, and he took a huge right hand while moving forward. He took some big big blows from Rudduck even later on again.
one of the mark wills kos he scored on greg was one of the most brutal overhand rights ive ever seen, outside of tim witherspoon, land
I sure did lose some $$ on that Coetzee bout. And if someone had told me Page was going to fight toe to toe, I'd have lost a lot more. How Weaver absorbed against Coetzee is frequently mentioned, but Page took clean right hands and even got beat to the punch by the guy. And went nowhere. Page had a terrific set of whiskers when he was at 100%. But only 100% and just how often did we get that? Ledoux? At 80%, he just wasn't the same guy and I'm sure it was frustrating to his trainers and managers. Getting a title shot sure does elevate the game of some guys though. They don't stand the test of time that well, but are formidable under that 1 scenario.
i remember seeing this fight this is prolly one of the best fights that shows chris byrd in his prime when he wasn't busy trying to be cute or all about on the defense....jimmy tried to land some bombs and chris just counterpunched him all night until jimmy got tired then in the ninth round chris just blitzed him with some lightning fast punches and had him falling back into the corner as the ref dived in to stop the fight
George Foreman versus Ron Lyle. All action, one of the best Heavyweight fights ever! Holmes-Norton Incredible 15th round!
This is forgotten/underrated fights. Foreman-Lyle is amongst the most famous and talked-about Heavyweight slugfests of all time pal:deal
Who knows, but I have "Moorer-Botha" for the IBF belt stemming from 1996 on the undercard of "Tyson-Holy." I thought Moorer and Botha fought a great heavyweight bout for a "paper" belt at the time......... Moorer's IBF belt was not popular in 1996........ I have the tape rolling right now............ Both guys came to fight, but Moorer gets Botha in the end........... I like it............. MR.BILLbbb
