Why is it that when boxers retire they begrudge the boxers that come after them? Tyson is especially bad for this
They want gullible people to believe that nonsense when they know full well they get annihilated in today's age
I'm a firm believer that over the years the standard gets higher. Every generation has a stand out above standard boxer. You could argue all day long about Ali or Tyson fighting today's boxers and what will or will not happen but we aren't ever gonna find out for real. Records and knock out percentage mean nothing when comparing boxers 20-50 years apart. They are fighting different boxers
Personally, I believe today's Era is more advanced in training, conditioning, and nutrition, also more skilled. But boxers of the past are stronger mentally, which directly affects their psychical toughness as well.
That's a myth. Mental toughness comes down to individual regardless of the time or environment he was born in. I can't see how say Golovkin, Kovalev and Pacquiao aren't mentally as tough as any of the past greats. Each of them had to go through severe difficulties in their life at some point.
Well there's exceptions, obviously, I didn't mean to imply what I stated is the rule. Mental toughness is up to the individual but generally those who suffer early learn to endure and overcome. Those you mentioned all have rough upbringings and have overcome. But, generally, with today's fighters, they're coddled and handed paper titles for way more money than they used to make. My statement was in general.
A lot of them are bitter because they broke and their time has long since passed by. Tysonwas once worth 300million and considered the baddest man on the planet. Now he's broke and reduced to doing HBO stand up comedy and ****. I was wondering why (White) America hates Floyd so muhc for his doemstic violence issues, but still loves Tyson despite his ***ual assault conviction. Its because Floyd is rich and top while Tyson has been broken down into nothing.
People who **** on this era like crazy and constantly whine and moan aren't real boxing fans to me. I'll always love boxing and I'll always love the newer generations of boxers as much as I love this one. Being a delusional nostalgic is the worst position you can take in life and it will make you bitter. I'm a historian and the one thing I learned from history is that you need to forget about history if you want to be great. When you're constantly comparing yourself to the people in the past or try to copy what they did or didn't do you're already setting yourself some stupid standards which limit you. History never repeats itself and each era has a completely new set of circumstances that have never existed before. That's why in boxing discussions all those "Ali vs Tyson" debates are dumb and I mocked them many times. I think that right now is the best time to be a boxing fan. It's truly a global sport now and elite boxers aren't only from USA now. Thanks to progress in technology you can now watch much more fights than ever before. It's much easier to follow boxing now and you can watch many classic fights on youtube. People forget how difficult this was before the internet revolution.
No Its because Mike Tyson was a FIGHTER!!! In his day he was The Baddest man on the Planet. Add to that his ***ual assault conviction was very suspicious Ive spoken to guys that were at that pageant they claim he was railroaded. No one likes Mayweather because he is nothing more than a very talented prima donna ,woman beating cowardly CHEATER!! Mayweather couldn't FIGHT!! so save his life
The Canelo-Golovkin and Mayweather-Pacquiao situations demonstrate perfectly why boxing is becoming more and more of a mockery. Call it nostalgia if you want, but Duran moving up to middleweight to fight Hagler, Hearns and Leonard fighting each other at 22 and 25 to determine the best welterweight, or Ali fighting the #2 ranked Bonavena and #1 Quarry before taking on champion Frazier straight out of exile without a million tune-ups puts these modern catchweight loving A side B side prima donnas to shame.
well once you are old, the thing that's most prevalent in your life are the wounds you have accumulated in your years of service, which you get reminded of everytime you move. NOt even figuring in the mental wounds from pushing yourself beyond capacity for prolonged periods in your youth and beyond, you simply wont have had the time to develop a normal resting retired persona, so even your retiring years are afflicted. After a few years of that, small wonder you begrudge your earlier commitments and are ready to relabel them as problems.
Ah now you make sense... Margarito and Tyson are innocent because they're aggressive and exciting fighters. Floyd is guilty and a cheat because he's boring and fights "scared". Now all your bull**** makes sense. Btw, I hit my woman today and popped a PED before work. :bbb
This is revisionist history, there were shenanigans in the 80's as well in those same very weight classes. Lennox Lewis is another who's sensitive about young boxers usurping his legacy. I don't take opinions from ex champs that seriously. No surprise Briggs is begging to be knocked out.
