Former head of WADA: Widespread use... questions "everything I see"

The former head of the WADA, who was founding chairman of WADA and is a former president of the agency, as well as a senior member of the International Olympic Committee has admitted that the widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport has forced him to question 'everything I see'.

"...exposing dopers is bad for business and the lack of appetite to tackle doping 'applies at the level of athletes, international sport organisations, national Olympic committees, anti-doping organisations and governments.'
He added: 'Governing bodies should be cleaning up sport but aren't. The reason WADA exists is because they weren't doing their job properly . . . and they still aren't.'

Interesting that he is not saying that he doesn't feel there is inability to catch the cheats, only no motivation to do so.

its mainly because organizations just dont care as well as not wanting to over spend on tests.

 

I think if they exposed the cheats most sports would have no competitors! I can think of a few boxers who would fail modern drug tests.

What's with equestrian though, the rider or the horse? Curling, lol, bowling on steroids.

I don't remember any high profile PED busts in amateur boxing, not that I follow much. I know about Vitali and some other guys way back. But not aware of any name amateurs caught before or during the London Olympics, for example. Mike Hunter earlier, but he was not really a big name and he competed in London. Anyone know of recent high profile amateur busts?

 

Roids also improve focus, concentration, attention span etc. The benefits are ridiculous...

 

I can't trust any list of top doping sports that doesn't include both sprinting and U.S. football, both of which are saturated with PED's to the point where it's a cost of doing business. They're also much more common in basketball than people believe.

 

If this is true it's one sad predicament we're in. Catching cheaters is supposed to be about protecting the innocent not only in a physical way, but also allow them to compete without taking the chance of ingesting drugs that could have both short term and long term side effects. There are so many reasons to upkeep the integrity of the sport it's mind boggling to think that would be cast aside for money.

 

WADA doesn't do the actual testing...they source that job off to VADA.

 

Doubt its riders. Im sure riders want to be lighter not heavier.
