I found the article while checking my e-mail on yahoo this morning. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090401/ap_on_go_co/boxing_pardon
Johnson should never have been convicted in the first place. Finally, something I agree with McCain on.
I think its a joke. Are they going to pardon all the other they persecuted and prosecuted under this law? Dont we have bigger problems across the country and across the world for a former presidential candidate to worry about than this obvious political football? Johnson was guilty under the laws of the day. Probably more guilty than the majority of people that this law was turned against. Why pardon him?
Sure it's political, but it's also a way to make a clear statement against the prevailing racism of the time that made this possible. While others perhaps were as unfairly judged, few were so obviously persecuted by the powers to be as Johnson. Why is it wrong to clearly say that that persecution was wrong and shameful?
This content is protected Ok guys, have a laught at dumb Espn. James Earl Jones pic is in place(Great White Hope) as Jack Johnson lol.
