Why are the fighters from the former Soviet countries so dominant at the amateurs? What makes their amateur system so good?
In Soviet Union organized sport was seen as a big deal, it was a way to show superiority to the capitalist system. Large amount of resources were allocated to sports and Soviets did show that they can excel at things where large amount resource was thrown at particular things (nuclear weapons, space program, gulags). Boxing was an important sport with a lot of focus on producing Olympic champions, was widely Countries like East Germany, Cuba show the same thing.

This is why they are so good as pros...most likely its because they have long ass 300-500 match amateur careers and get every possible kink imaginable worked out by fighting almost every style known to man. And Americans have about 80 to 120 matches and turn pro at 20 years old when they D fully KSAB yet.
