Mercer was too old with no other option who knew he wasn't going to go any far in boxing at that point. A young Mercer would've done far better of he chose K-1.

A younger, in shape Rodriguez would've possibly done better in boxing as well, doesn't prove much either way because both are fighting outside of their respective sports, and K-1 is still not MMA.

Yeah no doubt. Lets get this straight here guys. Most of the time a **** MMA guy beats a good boxer in MMA and Most of the time a **** boxer beats a good MMA in boxing. That not really all that suprising.

Side note what was the competition that Shannon Briggs was in over in Japan? Pretty sure that was kick boxing but I might be wrong.

It was K-1. He faced a wrestler(Tom Erikson I think it was) in a kickboxing match I believe. Not especially impressive.

Don't get confused. This are two different animals. I prefer boxing 100% as sport. But you have to understand the rules are different. May be the guy can win a fight by kicking or wrestling to submission. But boxing rules are different. One thing doesn't have nothing to do with the other. Is like a asking a football player to fight for a heavyweight title. He might tackle a 250lbs man. It doesn't mean he can box.

    Definitely.

I saw him fight MMA here in the Philippines a few months ago, and boy, he was out of shape.

He had a big, jiggly belly and a puffed up face. Really slow and past his prime.

And IIRC, his expertise was more into wrestling and grappling.

And when he was a prime UFC contender/champ, he was known as a "pretty boy" who hated to get hit, especially in the face.

I'm not surprised he got KO'd by a 0-1 boxer.

this is such an ignorant and stupid statement.

first off, they are two different combat sports. MMA requires much more than just boxing skills whereas boxing focuses on punching only.

so if someone from an mma background comes into a boxing fight, he's gon have to build up his boxing skills a lot more. its pretty obvious to be honest.

it was also a SD. and there are mma stars who are very good boxers but they have other excellent skills such as wrestling or kicking. and rico rodriguez is no current champion. so please, shut up.

so what this is a boxing forum, you go stfu and go back to your MMA forum..

its my opinion that boxing totally rules and **** off ricco is not an old guy you make him sound like he's past his prime. I can't wait if one of your MMA champs cross over to boxing and challenge just one of the average boxers, and i'll bet for them to get KTFO:hi:

That's what the MMA knobjockeys were telling us at the time. They use Mercer's MMA fights and Frans Botha's MMA fights as evidence, so it's fair to use the Rodriguez as evidence the other way.

Just like the fighters themselves, it seems MMA fans can dish it out but can't take it. :yep

oooh this is a boxing forum is it? is that why the site is called east side boxing? well duh!

if you actually ran a search on my posts you will notice i have never posted in the mma forums. i come on here for the boxing and i am a boxing fan.

your comments are just based on ignorance and if that is bliss then i'd rather have knowledge each and every time.

go and do some reading or watch good fighters.
