While I like both sports, Ricco was probably the wrong guy to step into a boxing ring. He comes from primarly a grappling backround. He's not a boxer in the least bit.

The guys been to rehab in the past year, has ballooned well over 300 lbs and has been there for a while, hasn't fought in the UFC in many years, has never been good at boxing, and still won 3 out of 4 rounds if you watch the fight.

Most MMA fighters who switch to boxing and most boxers who switch to MMA don´t do that well. Especially if they are washed up like Mercer or Rico. Both sports take insane skill and training to become good at. Boxing being more specialized but MMA more versatile. You could say boxing was like the pole vault while MMA was like the decathlon.

So? Rico is a very good grappler. Not a very good striker. What's your point? You don't have to be a great boxer to be a great fighter.

You nailed it, its a pretty simple concept, mma and boxing are different sports that require different abilities. Succes as a boxer doesn't mean a thing in MMA, and success an MMA doesn't mean a thing in Boxing.

If he was a decent boxer he would not fight in UFC. MMA is for chumps who fail in real sports.

So you mean to say Kevin Jackson (olympic gold medalist), Randy Couture, Mark Coleman, Kevnin Randleman, Mark Kerr etc. were failures at wrestling ?

Or do you think Royce Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Rodgrigo Nogueira, Vitor Belfort etc. to be failures at BJJ ?

Or do you consider Mirco Filipovic, Wanderlei Silva, Mark Hunt, Anderson Silva, Maurice Smith, Pedro Rizzo etc. to be failures at kickboxing/muay thai ?

Or were Fedor Emilianenko and Oleg Taktarov faiures at sambo ?

And what about the judo champions who went into MMA ?

    :patsch

Exactly. It's like comparing tennis and soccer because they are both ball sports.

Who would win, Pete Sampras or Pele?

To answer that, you have to say who would win at what? Pele would win at soccer, Sampras would win a tennis match.

    It's not rocket science.

Before donuts and cocacine Ricco Rodriguez was a very good MMA fighter.

He boxed at 270 lbs for his last fight. That means that he has actually lost some weight. He was up to 350 lbs at one point.
