Mayorga stopped an ego blown Forrest who had just beat the best p4p fighter in the world at the time.. Any one looking at Mayorga's style compared to Shane's would not have picked Mayorga over Forrest ,, No doubt Forrest was thinking the same thing as well.

You will also notice Mayorga was not able to run over Forrest in there second fight .

Forrest is a lot smarter now then he was then .. I think Forrest out boxes margarito .

if he boxes then we get a great fight but I think that the power of Tony will catch up to Vernon in the later rounds which is why i am lead to beleive Margarito wins this especially when you consider what Ike Quartey was able to get done with Vernon but styles do make fights you never know Vernon has one hell of a left hook and Margarito doesnt have a great defensive game if he catches Tony with that I would like to see how Tony responds.

Yes, why do people bring up the Santos fight when Margarito was on his way to KO a guy who came in weighing 170 pounds against a welter weight who had moved up to 154.

Santos got a home town decision and many people act as if Santos was really winning before the ref stopped due to a cut not so severe Oh I forgot, the fight took place in Puerto Rico, Santo's hometown.

Ike Quartey gave lots of fighter fit because of his skill , including winky at his natural weight 154 . Ike is a lot bettered skilled fighter then margarito .

Margarito power is over rated IMO , he's not a explosive puncher and not particularly as heavy handed as Mayorga , who has laid the hurt on some World class opposition so until Margarito KOs a world class fighter Im going to save judgement .. but I will say his hands are Heavy enough to wear you down and Knock you out if your not ready for him .. but I think Vernon is smart enough to know he has to box Margarito take some steam out of him so by the later round he's not as dangerous.

Vernon by a hard fought UD.

If they fought @ 154, I can see Forrest winning a UD. But it would be a lot closer then people think. This isn't the Forrest who beat Shane anymore and should be seen as that, UNLESS he shows he still has it. Luckily, Forrest is an excellent boxer and very smart.

I think the Southpaw style of Santos & Williams are the main reasons Margo struggled against them, + having great Jab's and movement when a fight would breakout. (Not their fault That Margo is a tad bit slow They fought the right kind fight against a Tornado)

Forrest is defo one of my fav's over the last decade or so, but it's looking about that time for him to have a couple more and into the sunset. At his best he is a top #3 WW over the last decade IMO , Right now he is prob a Top #4 Jr. Middleweight in his division but defo on the decline.

    Can he beat Margarito....YES
Can he defeat a Margarito at this stage in his career? Maybe?
Do I pick him to win? NO
(Not if Money was on the line, 5 years ago I'll say all on Forrest)

To much aggression & pressure will overwelm The Viper IMO.
Margarito by Late stoppage, Corner will throw in the towel. (8th)
    (You ain't knocking out Vernon)

I think this would be an easy win for Forrest. Forrest has gotten better since the Quartey fight. People forget that he was coming off an injury that wasn't fully healed. His speed and timing is back. Vernon is not easily hurt as some seem to think because of the first Mayorga fight. I think he dominates this fight with his ring generalship.

Mayorga's chin has always been overrated. So was his power. He's a haymaker thrower, home run hitter if you will, of course if he conntects he might do some damage. But he didn't have the skill to do so regularly. He KO'd Forrest ONCE and that seemd to make him have crazy power (Forrest, BTW, was stunned, not even KTFO in that first fight). Also those punches he let Forrest tag him with, he saw those and was ready.

One gets the feeling that those who mention the Santos fight are just getting their info from Boxrec and have never actually seen it:deal

His power was always overrated, been saying it since the 2nd Forrest fight. His chin though I wouldn't think so, he had a really solid chin, it's the Trinidad fight that totally took that ability away. He took FAR more damage from a serious puncher 2 weights above his weight limit for 8 rounds of complete POUNDING, it's only logical his chin won't be the same after that IMO.
