Ring (despite the obvious GBP politics polluting it) now I agree, because that's only the the top fighters against eachother or the man that beat the man. That's also why there are only 6 Ring champs out of 17 divisions at this time, and it was even down to 3 for some time last year. But Lineal... Who is the lineal champion per weightclass exactly? There have to be 17 now, right?! Some of them long since retired and still waiting for their successor... Who exactly are they as there are so little of them active or in the same division? 200+ Lineal : Fury, was retired. 200+ Ring : nobody 200 Lineal : Usyk 200 Ring : Same 175 Lineal : Gvozdyk 175 Ring : nobody 168 Lineal : Ward, but retired. 168 Ring : Smith 160 Lineal : Alvarez 160 Ring : Same 154 Lineal : ? 154 Ring : nobody 147 Lineal : Floyd? 147 Ring : nobody 140 Lineal : Crawford, I guess... 140 Ring : nobody 135 Lineal : ? 135 Ring : Lomachenko 130 Lineal : ? 130 Ring : nobody 126 Lineal : ? 126 Ring : Lomachenko 122 Lineal : Rigondeaux? 122 Ring : nobody 118 lineal : ? 118 Ring : Inoue 115 Lineal : Estrada 115 Ring : Same 112 Lineal : ? 112 Ring : nobody 108 Lineal : ? 108 Ring : Kuyoguchi 105 Lineal : ? 105 Ring : nobody So can someone fill out these many questionmarks I have? And see we only have 3 divisions where the lineal and Ring overlap. Cruiser, for moved up Usyk. Middle for also probably moved up Alvarez, and Super Fly for Estrada.
firstly its the top belt that counts, nothing else is the actual world title. And then by organisation - WBA and WBC IBF WBO anything else.
Historically the WBA goes back the furthest, being established in 1921, and therefore it has the longest list of great champions wearing their belt. 1. WBA 2. WBC 3. IBF 4. WBO Ring and lineal are much more difficult obtain than the govt bodies and have history of superior champions than those of the ABC belts.
Lineal is simply the last undisputed champ. If the undisputed champ retires without passing the torch, then that remains vacant until a new undisputed is established. Undisputed could be a 3 belt instead of 4 belt unified champ, as long as they’re the consensus no.1.
Nope, that isn't always the case. Lineal and undisputed have been seperated multiple times troughout history, just look at Tyson for instance, who wasn't lineal until 5 fights after becoming undisputed. Consensus #1 and lineal aren't even close to be combined, actually usually nowadays the guy concidered lineal has been the one avoiding challenges and the division's consensus #1.
IBF - seem the most professional and the most consistent at sticking to their rules. WBO - Probably the next best out of the 4 governing bodies. WBC - protects certain fighters and make the rules up as they go along with their mandatories and basically take the **** in certain incidents eg protecting Canelo and Wilder and the mistreatment of Whyte. WBA - dreadful rankings and too many bull**** trinket belts. Ring - used to mean something but as Holler said their editorial independence has affected their credibility. IBO & lineal - couldnt give ****.
Look, when I was a kid, it was: 1.WBC 2.WBA 3. IBF Nobody cares about the WBO or the IBO.... I am a fan of the Lineal belt however, and I've never understood why more people don't like that belt. For one, its not connected to any sanctioning body thereby eliminating any opportunity for corruption.... And secondly, all it does is track the lineage of champions...hiw could anyone have a problem with that!?! Thats about as pure as it gets. I used to hold the Ring belt in high regard, but I have lost a lot of respect for their publication in my adulthood..... And Oscar de la Hoya being a stakeholder has nothing to do with it, they just have a history of publishing shill, agenda driven fan boys who would be more suited for forums such as this one
Transnational rankings are the only legit ones with appropriate system how its ranking top 10.. All the rest are laughable ,anyone standing by them or a specific one don't know how to rank guys. This is mainly bc of corruption so ,it wont change ,go by the trans rankings, then maybe ring ? IDK. stay clear of boxrec overall in ranking system, their top 10 isn't to bad ,the rest is …….. lol .
Ortiz declined a Whyte U.K fight in July last year on PPV made an excuse he needed more time and fought on the SAME day anyway at Staple Center on undercard instead against RAZVAN COJANU. Stop lying.
They have decent rankings, push VADA, and have a lot of eliminators. Canelo should be forced to fight Jermall and Santa Cruz should have to fight Russel though.
To be really unhelpful, I recognise the Lineal championship at H/W but not so much in the other weight divisions. To me, recognising the Lineal H/W champ is an historical thing & essentially means there's only one H/W champion of the world at any one time. I became a boxing fan when Michael Spinks was Lineal champ & Mike Tyson was tearing it up so the principle that applied then has stuck with me ever since. I also recognise that time is marching on & we're living in a different era which is why I don't place much stock in lineage in respect of other weight divisions. Of the sanctioning bodies, the IBF & WBC are the best organised & their rankings most accurately represent the world as a whole. The WBA & WBO are tin-pot Latin American outfits who do things on a whim. One is poorly organised but has a rich history. The other has no history & is better organised. The IBO are try-hards, the ding-a-lings at The Ring lost all credibility many years ago & the WBF should change its name to WTF.
