What rounds did Frazier win after five?

That's how Boxing News scored it. I had it 8-6-1 for Joe but by a four point margin using 10-must.

Well, various ones on different cards. There were just six rounds scored unanimously. They were:

    Joe: 3, 4, 8, 11 & 15.
    Cass: 2, 9.

Then they did a very bad job. I definitely have Ali cleraly ahead after 5 rounds, and so does the commentator, Don Murphy. I really can't understand how they had Frazier ahead. Ali scored a LOT, and with very hard, clean punches.

Frazier takes over after 5 rounds, but Ali started strongly, no doubt. I can't believe the judges had it 3-2 to Frazier. Look at the fight again and tell me which 3 of the first 5 that Joe won.

Why do some people insist on trying to take this fight away from Frazier, he clearly won and Ali was lucky he was not KO'D.

9-6 for Smokin' Joe that's how I scored it. Joe Frazier smoked him for the first 4 rounds and was beaten 4-10. From round 11 and after, Joe Frazier won those rounds while scoring a knockdown.

You're looking at it from the wrong perspective.

Ali was not lucky he didn't get knocked out. There was no luck involved. Ali stayed on his feet because he is a true warrior with one of the best wills the sport as ever seen, and you're discrediting him as a fighter and human being by calling it luck.

Considering perhaps the fight was close is not a discredit to either fighter. They both fought their best, and Frazier came out on top. I feel a lot of people aren't keeping an open mind because they hate hearing all the pro-ali chants from boxing fans and non boxing fans. That's to be expected though.

Frazier won the fight, Ali won the war.

    Great fight. :good

You mean Don Dunohy has Ali clearly ahead and so do you. ;)

I gave Ali three of the first five actually, I was just pointing out what the judges scored it (as you pointed out how the commentator scored it).

Well, I suppose very much on how heavily you rate agression etc. The important think is really that it was a great competitive fight. They start banging each other from the word go and just doesn't stop. Joe won, but I have it pretty close. There really was no loser in that fight (even if Ali probably would have disagreed).

I don't rate aggression as much as some people. Joe won fair and square. A close fight, but a clear winner. Ali doesn't win more than six in anyone's scoring crtierion surely. I'd say over 90% of fans had Frazier the winner- that's a huge margin. Even the poster CMC tabbed Joe the winner and believe me he finds any way to score Ali the winner usually. It seems the thread's author too scores Ali fights on:"Celebrity Generalship", "Solid Fame" & "Effective Magazine Covers".

    Sensible perspective!

If the decision had gone to Ali it would still be remembered as the robbery of the century.
It would be remembered as the all-time bad decision, the all-time worst.

    Frazier kicked his ass.

I assume people who have it real close, or score it for Ali, tend not to score much on body punching.

Frazier was catching head shots early, some of them hard, but he was slipping plenty of them too. Ali's hands are so fast that some people may just score every single punch without trying to really see which ones are landing.

Anyway, throughout the fight, whether Ali was hitting or missing with straight shots to Joe's head, whether they were solid punches or mere flicks, Frazier was consistently landing thudding hooks to the body. Not only that, he was landing vicious hooks to the jaw too. Ali only landed a few hard head-snapping rights that really compare to the dozens of hooks Joe landed to the head and body.

Frazier's defense at times was inadequate to escape enough of Ali's volume of punches. But Ali was WIDE OPEN for Frazier's best shots MOST OF THE TIME.

Seriously, I say 9-6 Frazier to appease the Ali fans, that's me being generous to Ali. Really, 2 of those 6 I scored even.

Ali put up a HEROIC effort, he proved his greatness in defeat. But it was a clear defeat.

Of the first five rounds IMO Frazier only possibly won the third. I had the third round even, so I had it 4-0-1 for Ali in the first five rounds.
