FOTC Frazier v Tokyo Douglas?

No he just beat a 6' 3" 215lb fighter named Muhammad Ali..... Next subject...

 

The only thing laughable here is you saying that the shots Foreman landed were glancing blows...

 

If I'm not mistaken didn't the GOAT take a wee trip to the hospital after that fight too....

 

Seriously though, does anyone really think Douglas would win ?

 

Some do because he's bigger than frazier

 

Saying that Joe Frazier couldn't beat big men is a myth. Muhammad Ali, Joe Bugner and Buster Mathis were all big heavyweights.. One of them is commonly labeled as the greatest fighter of all time while the other two were at least ranked in the top 10 or so I'm pretty sure they were. It wasn't just size that beat Joe Frazier.. It was a certain kind of style and power. George Foreman is in my book one of the deadliest two fisted punchers of all time who was in the peak of his prime and facing Joe Frazier after he lost some of his edge. That's not to say that Big George wouldn't have beaten him had the fight taken place earlier, as I definitely think he would have but still.. Buster Douglas was a tall rangy fighter who used the jab and the right cross to beat his opponents in similar fashion to Ali but with less speed, less movement, less heart and less durability. And we all saw what kind of a time Ali had with Frazier. At 6'4", 230 lbs James would have had a good size advantage over the 5'11", 205 lb Frazier and certainly a bit more sting to his punches than Ali had.. But I think he lacks in too many other areas especially stylistically and stamina wise. Joe will take some big shots, perhaps even undergo some swelling and might even get decked. But he'd also slip a lot of those jabs while coming back with lethal left hooks - something Douglas was prone to getting hit with. I see this as being either a decision or late stoppage win for Frazier.. I can see making a fully motivated Douglas a live underdog against some champions. But making him the outright "favorite" in fantasy fights against proven greats is stretching things a tad far, especially for a guy who has perhaps TWO signature wins in his entire career and a handful of defeats to lesser men.

 

Yet people believe Tyson was washed up at the grand old age of 23....

 

I've always been impressed by the fact that Douglas has THREE wins against Jesse Clark on his professional record.

Well, you were just saying how he was hospitalized for 2 weeks after the FOTC.

Seems reasonable that such an episode could take A LOT out of a fighter.

 

And then later went on to say fighting Frazier was the closest thing to death he'd ever been, what exactly as this got to do with the price of bacon anyway??
