I understand the logic of picking Frazier but let’s not forget Max excelled against straight ahead pressure fighters. He destroyed Mickey Walker and Johnny Risko and went 2-0-1 (should have been 3-0) against Uzcudon.
None of those guys are as good as Frazier but the fact Max looked great against those guys tells me that he would not be shy about fighting Frazier. I think Max would probably do well early on - at least as good as Quarry in his first bout with Joe. Do I see Max losing yes but I think he gives Frazier some good lumps along the way.

Max would see “something”...but he wouldn’t like it. Joe Frazier’s mighty left hook, time and again.

Max might get a few right hands in but he’d only be stoking Smoking Joe’s fire.

Even Foreman observed how Joe enjoyed heated give and take exchanges - as if it invigorated the indefatigable Frazier.

Schmeling by Stoppage. Schmeling’s right hand is all wrong for Frazier.

Frazier was a sucker for right hands and although Schmeling wasn’t at his best anymore by the time he fought Louis in the first fight he still had an excellent right, was motivated, and in excellent condition.

Even in the FOTC Frazier absorbed a ton of right hands from Ali, who didn’t have a right hand as dangerous as Schmeling’s.
