Thanks Swag. I'm not saying Frazier was the same but he was certainly better than some want to imply.

TFOTC would have taken some toll that's for sure. It's somewhat ironic that the beaten older warrior with the stronger resume behind him is the one who is presumed to have come out better. The guy who took more punishment. Ali beat Foreman post Frazier of course when Foreman was peak almost 2 more years post Foreman - Frazier. As i said Frazier tho slowing was still whupping top 10 contenders post Foreman and giving Ali hell immediately prior to Ali beating Foreman and not toooo long after as well.

It IMO underlines my point that George was all wrong for Frazier and always would be. I can't for the life of me see it happening for Joe.

Frazier puts up a much better fight due to being in better shape, but I still see Foreman stopping him eventually, since Frazier liked to stand directly in front of his opponent and unfortunately that will eventually get you hammered by a guy like Foreman. Even Larry Holmes, who hates Foreman admitted standing directly in front of Foreman is a very bad idea.

It also didn’t help that Both Archie Moore and Joe Louis had Frazier’s style completely figured out for Foreman.

Effective? Frazier didnt win a round in either fight.Running around just delayed the inevitable.Frazier nailed Foreman with his hook in their 1st fight George didnt even change his expression.

He looked okay in the 2nd Quarry fight I think his physical deterioration is very exaggerated. If he let himself get out of shape and wanted to go around singing and defending against 2 unranked nobodies, avoiding deserving challengers for 2 years that was his choice, he gets no slack for it from me.In fact I think he pissed on the legacy he had built up with FOTC.
The idea of taking Foreman the 1st time was to get him before he was polished, and the finished article ,turned out his brute power and strategy of pushing Joe back by the shoulders to the optimum range for his big swings was all that was needed.

I hadn't thought out that two years after FOTC enough I guess.

It's true, Joe's waiting to fight another top-ranked challenger wasn't exactly a cool thing to do (and somewhat mirrors what Bowe did after Holy I).

I do remember watching George's fights a couple of years before the Frazier I and thinking he definitely didn't look as together...self-possessed as he would for Joe I.

effective in surviving, not in hurting George. I think if Frazier could have kept that movement up for 5-7 rounds, Foreman would be too tired, and would have been his. Foreman was extremely hard to REALLY hurt, and the best time to hurt him was when he was tired.

I agree with everything in this post. Frazier was a lot better than some like to make him out to be such as Choklab who makes out Frazier to be a crippled paraplegic. On the other end of the spectrum, we have Luf who thinks Frazier was the same as TFOTC, a notion which anyone who even took a cursory look at their respective versions would laugh at. I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Not hopelessly washed up, had somewhat more wear and tear, underestimated his opponent (just like everyone else did as Foreman was regarded as an afterthought ahead of Frazier's rematch with Ali) and overweight (the latter of which as @mcvey stated was nobody's fault except his own).

That being said, I can't see even a prime Frazier beating Foreman (though I think he gives him a much better fight than he did in real life).

So to sum up, Foreman always beats Frazier.

Frazier would have put up a much better fight.
The 1971 Ali fight and Frazier's style generally had taken a lot out of him by 1973.
