It would be a fantastic match up. For strange reasons i never thought much about it, more like Louis vs Ali, Lewis and others, and Frazier vs Tyson, Bowe, Liston and others. I dont think it would be a walk in the park for anyone here. Louis punches much harder then Ali thats for sure. But Frazier has more heart and stamina as any opponent Louis ever faced. This could be like Gatti Ward I in Heavyweight...
Foreman beat frazier thanks to his all time great power, his iron chin and his strength, something louis (except for power) lacked IMO (or atleast, it was not as good as george's) so he would not be as free to fire away at frazier as george was, and thus had a smaller chance of hitting him coming in. BUT, still, he had incredible power in both hands, and while it was probably not foreman’s level of power, it was deadly for sure. HOWEVER, if he failed, his "OK" chin would not give him a good chance of surviving Frazier's onslaught, and he would not have Foreman's bull strength to push him back outside and fire away. I cannot predict this one. In my opinion, IF Louis hit Frazier coming in, and hard enough, AND manage to hold him outside, he could stop him with repeated knockdowns. IF frazier succeeded in getting inside on the brown bomber, louis’ chin would definitely have been vulnerable to smokin joe’s power and it would crumble.
The specifically FOTC Frazier stops Louis in 11, but suffers at least one kd along the way. There is no other Frazier who beats Joe Louis.
It should also be mentioned Foreman also beat Frazier because of two other reasons, one because of his holding, and resetting Frazier whenever he got in, forcing him to start over which is something Louis almost certainly wouldn't have done, as well as Frazier being past prime, which helped Foreman a great deal.
The FOTC Frazier to this day really amazes me. That drive he had was inexorable, implacable. A lot of people don't see just how badly Ali was knocking him around, the former was most CERTAINLY at the top of his 70s game (and yeah, I know he wasn't his 60s level but still come on people). Joe took shots and combinations that I seriously doubt any other heavyweight of that era could have lasted long against. Joe's performance after the 8th round was beyond belief, incredible heart and drive... I highly reccomend people who completely dimiss Frazier's chances against any 70s heavyweight to watch him closely during that fight. Shoot, against ANY past or present heavyweight. He couldn't be stopped by a still-under-30 version of the greatest heavyweight ever.
FOTC Frazier wears him down. Stops him in the latter round. Styles makes fights and Frazier s is an horrible one for Louis.
I just can't see many heavyweight beating this Frazier unless their called Foreman. I know it's Louis he's fighting but I see this as being a cross between the first Schmeling fight and Marciano. Hurt early and basically never really recover s.
I'm not saying it's impossible for Frazier to win, but you have to keep in mind that it's extremely tough fight for both. Louis isn't Foreman, but he could be just as dangerous for Frazier.
