This is due to motivation, importance and readiness for FOTC. "You're not a real champion if you don't beat me." Muhammad Ali Both Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali knew that, and the whole world knew that. That is why Joe Frazier has the most valuable victory in the history of the heavyweight category (in the opinion of most, not all).
I would make Louis the favorite to get a stoppage win at some point. But Frazier’s style and persistence would make it a hard night. Good fight
I know this was written in clever jest but the funny thing for me is, in the context of this fantasy match up, whenever someone just writes “Joe”, my mind auto defaults to Louis, not Frazier. No slight on the “Smok’n’ “ One of course - but perhaps it reflects my sub con bias toward The Bomber, LOL.
Totally agree. Louis was not lacking in size to the degree some suggest. More vision that punctuates the point: when Joe ref’d Frazier vs Quarry II - Louis appreciably the biggest guy in the ring. Makes you better appreciate the size of guys like the Baer bros, Carnera, Simon etc who did make Joe look somewhat smaller in varying respective degrees. One final attribute - Louis had notably solid and strong legs: thighs and calves, which presented as no mean component to his power chain.
I think it would be an exciting one as well. Two fast handed hitters with high output and a lot of skill.
Louis stops Frazier in the mid-late rounds (Maybe Round 11). Similar to the 2nd Arturo Godoy fight, Louis probably butchers him with uppercuts. Probably a referee stoppage after a few late knockdowns. Louis was faster, more powerful, smarter, had more ways to win and he could punch with both hands. Frazier himself always admitted that Louis was the heavyweight GOAT.
Louis beat Tony Galento This content is protected Galento and Frazier both utilized the left hooks and had similar styles.
There is no way on earth for Frazier to win. He can't fight Louis from distance. When he gets in close he is face to face with the man that is the textbook example of short, powerful punches. This is a short fight. Have you seen Frazier v Quarry 1? The first round? Explain to me how the Frazier of that fight sees a second round.
While not feeling as strongly as you i do agree Louis could well take him out early. It's far from out of the question. Frazier took a while to get his teeth into things and Louis would be letting loose straight away as Frazier marched into range.
There is no track record to show Louis could beat Frazier. He never fought anyone near as good as him. Louis didn’t have to fight strong black fighters in their prime during his reign. At least not until after the war and then the first 2 he fought he lost to. Should have with Walcott. The speed power combination even if you include Charles and Walcott is beyond those guys. Frazier swarms over Louis a perpetual motion machine. Quick bobbing ducking under Louis leads and like a lightening bolt the left hook crashes into Louis jaw. But there is an exciting possibility that if the second bout Louis shows up with the right game plan and has to be the biggest pre war Louis at least 202. (I don’t believe the 207 for Simon was real.) That Louis could play Foreman even though he lacks his size strength and power. He could make up for it with his great combinations and accuracy. But he would have to fight the greatest fight of his career and go hard early. The longer it goes the worst it is for Louis.
Both men where GREAT fighters and both were wildly inconsistent. Depends which of each shows up. Louis better not get caught sleeping like he sometimes did. But either man can win it.
