The fighters of the 50s would have dominated the division in the 20s 30s or 40s. You don’t understand the social changes that influenced this. I guess you think the nba changed from 100% white in the early 50s to 80% black now because of less players overall. Not because of black players being excluded from fully participating.
Just saying Frazier would be the best fighter he ever fought. Louis would have to have his best performance to win.
I agree, with Schmeling being the second. I don't think Schmeling and Frazier are that far apart in terms of class though.
WOW!! Man this would be an AWESOME matchup--I'd absolutely pay top dollar to see this!! I'd give the slight edge to Smokin Joe on this one (the Frazier of FOTC vintage.) It would be one HELL of a war--but I think Frazier's constant pressure and crunching bodywork would eventually get to Louis. And Frazier's bobbing and weaving would be a style that Louis might have some trouble with--especially early on. Combine all that with Frazier's fierce iron will and fanatical conditioning and I believe Smokin Joe would ultimately prevail. (This would be another FOTC caliber fight!!) However, Frazier would HAVE to be in FOTC form to win this one!!
Doubt he blasts Max out of there, but styles make fights and the styles do favour Joe. Even if he did get blasted out, it wouldn't make Schmeling any less skilled than Joe or of lesser class. Styles make fights.
