Nuts! I kept the picks that didn't include an American, cross referenced with their list of 100 greatest fights and added a few foreign fights I'd seen or heard of. Gatti is Canadian and Ruelas is Mexican so I kept them in. It was a good fight too. Would you have preferred Tua vs Ibeabuchi perhaps? Or do you have your heart set on Joichiro Tatsuyoshi vs Sirimongkol Singwancha? I have to admit, this thread was prompted by that other one you mentioned that fight in. I just watched it and it's a good one. Of course, you are welcome and encouraged to supply your own alternate fights if you disagree. That is actually the conceit of this thread. So many people complain about American bias on this forum I was curious what they thought boxing history should actually look like.
:good I think Gatti vs. Ruelas is a fine little dust-up, but it just isn't even close between it and Sirimongkol vs. Tatsuyoshi, IMO.
I was sort of hoping that Flea Man, VicJofre_Brazil, or Flo_Raiden might pop in here and give some insight into the great fights abroad or the little men of the sport. Figured by posting this thread in the know-it-all section of the forum the boxing historians would be coming out of the woodwork to show each other up. But maybe making lists of great fights, isn't the classic sections thing? Perhaps, they'd rather speculate about what old diminutive fighter would beat a Klitschko, or whether Ali would beat Mike Tyson? Flea Man told me two years ago to check out Fighting Harada vs Pone Kingpetch I and boy, he wasn't wrong. That's exactly the kind of fight I want to see as a boxing fan. Two guys who are all business, know what they're there to do and get to work; boxing bell to bell from the first round, flying out of their corners, with even a little fighting after the bell. A+ stuff. I've added it above. I've got five spaces to fill in the seventies but I should be able to plug them with something by Duran, Monzon, Napoles, Arguello, Canto, Gomez, Zarate, or Gushiken. I'm also going to have to watch Sung Kil Moon vs Nana Konadu to make sure it's better than Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn for 1990. Also, 94 has some competition: Onizuka vs Lee or Tatsuyoshi vs Yakushiji. Bassa vs MacAuley might take 1987, but I'm a little ****ed how hard finding a suitable candidate for 2002, 1999, and 1998 is being. Do I just stick Barrera vs Morales II in 2002 and then I've listed all three fights of their trilogy? I've also heard that Masao Ohba vs Orlando Amores might be what I'm looking for for '72. As always, any help or opinions are more than welcome.
Didn't anyone ever tell you Gatti was Italian / Canadian, who only lived in New Jersey whilst he boxed, and moved back to Canada when he retired?
I don't know if that is cut and dry, actually. It was HW FOTD, certainly, but Freitas vs. Barrios rocked.
You wrote, So they still bungle this one even with Americans excluded, eh? In reply to this So we have a fight between an Italian / Canadian, and a Mexican which happened in 1997. There are no Americans there, so I fail to see the " bungle "
atsch Try again. Where in what you quoted of me do you see any confusion on my part as to whether either of them is American? Or are you unclear on the definition of "excluded"?
No, I'm unclear on your definition of " bungle ":think Please feel free to attempt to give me a lesson in the ENGLISH language, and its different contexts. after all isn't your location part of New England?
