Tyson is very inconsistent. He looks really good at times, and really shitty at others. He looked good enough on film for me to pick him very confidently over Richie Mepranum, and he then proceeded to fight like a schmuck and get schooled by him. (Mepranum is not very good, btw). Then after that loss and a second consecutive one (to Nonito Donaire, by KO...which is certainly more forgivable) he starts mounting a comeback and scores this huge upset win. Basically, he's good when he attacks instead of running. That's where Concepcion has most of his success against him - backing him up.
What a ****ing war!!! Definitley FOTY so far!!! Great win for Hernan! Montiel did it last year in Japan. Segura as well in Puerto Rico. and now Marquez does it in Panama! :happy
Paulie D i mean Concepcion has zero defense and probably the stiffest neck i have ever seen in any fighter, no head movement whatsoever. As for the fight it was a good fight specially the first two/three rounds but after that it was mostly target practice for Marquez, I still prefer the Lee-McCewen fight as this years FOTY so far.
There was drama after that. Of the ten completed rounds, about half were ROTY candidates. It isn't like Marquez was safe & sound from the 4th all the way until the start of the aborted 11th. He runs hot and cold even during fights. Yeah, he outboxed and outpunched Concepcion for the slower-paced middle rounds...but then he started to get tagged with that right hand again and almost put in dire trouble down the stretch. There's a 50-50 chance that either one of them could have been KTFO in the 11th or 12th, as exhaustion made up the slack between their mutual punch resistance and the huge bombs both were landing.
Marquez showed some improved skills in this fight and showed that he had the condition to go all 12 so I am impressed. However, lets see what happens next as he may just be a flash in the pan. @ Intentional As far as his inconsistency goes it seems that Marquez struggles with taller boxers like Mepranum and Donaire.
He reminds me of a young Gatti the way he looks and the way he fights no defence just heart and loves to fight and digs deep and gives it his all great little fighter. :good
I want him to do well; he packs a mean punch and he's got good skills and a good style (when he isn't getting bullied around the ring). It's just very frustrating watching him mentally collapse sometimes...even in the Concepcion fight where he really didn't have that much of a height disadvantage. In fact, he is supposedly an inch taller than El Nica...but I don't really buy that tbh (against the 5'6" Donaire it was said he gave up three inches, so 5'3", while Concepcion is listed 5'2"...if anything it seems the other way around, with Concepcion maybe an inch taller).
IB, which do you think was the better fight; Teon Kennedy vs Jorge Diaz, or Andy Lee vs Craig McCewan? And what would be your top 5 fights of the year thus far?
both mepranum and donaire relied on their reach to nullify anything he had...mepranum schooled him with his jab I do believe that he has adapted his game but lets see what he does next
