FOTY! What do you think is going to be the single most important factor tonight?

Before Mayweather Sr. came into the picture I'd totally agree with you. Not now though, Sr. has this kid tuned up to the max and you'll see a different Hatton style tonight. No way Manny will hold up to the pressure, it'll be a nightmare.

You acknowledge that Hatton could damage Pac with a single bodyshot. Do you think Pacquiao could cause Hatton a similar level of damage with a single shot, whether it is to the body or head? In his fights with Marquez, Pacquiao has twice been the puncher, and Marquez's punch power is superb. If Lazcano and Collazo can hurt Ricky... What do you think Cuch?

Pacquiao does not lack serious power, but he very well may do up at 140.

I think Ricky gets a bad rap, I like watching him fight. As a B-Hop fan, a bit of hit n hold doesn't bother me. Do you feel that Hatton wore down Collazo and got the win? I'm not so sure.

I agree with you on Floyd and on Pac's tactics. I think he can absorb Ricky's punch though, to the head at least. Ricky failed to stop Lazcano or drop Malignaggi. Pac's punch resistance will not be any less than either of those guys at 140.

All-round good post. You may be bang on the money about everything. We shall see.

How much of a difference can Mayweather Sr really have made? Aside from the fact he is a very overrated trainer because he is a big name and has a famous and successful son, I'm not sure he can really do much with Ricky. Ricky's strengths are his strengths, and his weaknesses are his weaknesses. Aside from making Ricky jab more which would help him a lot, I don't see what magic potion Floyd is meant to sprinkle on the Hitman. Ricky will never have good head movement or be very hard to hit. He will never have a granite chin. And Pacquiao certainly is not going to stand straight up and square on and allow himself to be caught slap bang on the skull with telegraphed hooks from across the ring like Paulie 'The Blind Statue' Malignaggi did.

If Ricky wins, it will be because he does what he's good at, infighting. Floyd Sr may make Ricky tidier, safer, more poised, but he does not have a fairy wand that will transform Ricky and be the deciding factor as you seem to think he will.

Those guys were naturally much bigger than Pac, especially Collazo. From what I watched of Pac in December, I didn't sense much power AT THAT WEIGHT. If Collazo had landed as Pac did, Oscar would have been gazing at the ceiling.

The Collazo win, while not a robbery for Ricky, was a fortunate win. However, that was at 147, and not Ricky's best weight.

Agin here, I was thinking of the body, Rick' forte. But if Ricky lands something big and flush to the head (unlikely), I think that signals the end for Pac.

I'm certainly looking forward to this one !

While I have picked Ricky earlier in the thread, it didn't have a great deal to do with his trainer. I think Ricky needs to brawl, and get ugly.

Floyd probably didn't turn him into as good a boxer as Pac.

manny always tries to be one step ahead outjabbing you or outworking you. the fighter with the better preperation and hungrier one with win. i liked especially how mayweather sr showed hatton how to finish alot of combinations with a jab because not only with that keep pacman off balance, but finishing with the jab can mount another combination, whoever has the better jab will win

Haven't really followed the thread, but i think we will be surprised with just how comfortable Pac is at 140. I think he is going to be no more than 5 pounds lighter than Ricky and in great shape. The weight, strength and size advantage that Ricky is relying on to win the fight isn't really going to exist.

    Lets get it on.

Alright, got that completely wrong. Apparently Pac doesn't need all that many punches to destroy Hatton.

As I mentioned, Pac has improved with every outing. The one thing he was missing, (not that he needed it) was serious one punch KO power.

I don't believe he possessed it against Diaz or Oscar, and certainly not against JMM.

Unless we think of Ricky's jaw as having significant quantities of silicon dioxide, Manny has now added that particular weapon to his arsenal.

And against a big strong solid-jawed natural 10-stoner.

I'm not surprised or shocked at the victory. I thought this fight was close to a pick'em affair.

I AM surprised at the manner of the victory. If I hadn't watched the fight and someone told me Manny won, and invited me to guess how it went, I would have guessed that Pac had evaded Ricky's onslaught for the first two to four rounds, then started pot-shotting through the middle rounds, before knocking Ricky out of his game later in the fight.

I would have guessed he then built up a solid lead and took the UD, or just maybe finished Ricky off when the Mancunian's stamina and spirit waned in the championship rounds.

But while I was disappointed at the brevity of the affair after the build-up and the undercard, I was entertained and surprised by the manner in which Pac disposed of the hapless Hatton.

This performance was a clear improvement over his last outing.

The Oscar of December last would have gone down to KO in four or five to the Pac of tonight..

Pac can now do everything. I am looking forward to the near-inevitable duel: Manny v Money !

I picked against him versus Oscar, but stated that it should be a good competitive fight. I gave him a 40 % chance there.

I picked against him tonight, but only just. I gave him a 49 % chance.

Now Floyd is significantly better than Ricky and overwhelmingly better than the version of Oscar that Manny stopped.

However, Manny continues to improve, even now. He's getting close to Floyd's level, and, IMO, he leads Floyd in the 'intangibles.' (Heart, balls, hunger....)

i will have to think very carefully about who to pick when this fight gets made.

Congratulations to Pac on a spectacular victory !
