I once met 3 undisputed heavyweight champions in consecutive fights.

    Who am I?

I was going to say ali. he fought norton, frazier and foreman back to back. then I realised you said undisputed and norton was only a beltholder. i have a feeling it could be someone like paulino uzcudun, an underrated contender of the 1930s. I thiink he fought carnera, schmeling and louis in a row.

He did, but not three different opponents in three consecutive fights. Paulino took on Schmeling in back to back matches between Carnera and Louis. The Welshman confronted Louis, Braddock, and Max Baer in successive bouts.

You're absolutely right. He fought Carnera-Schmeling-Schmeling-Louis.

I should have been more specific. What I meant was: 3 undisputed heavyweight champs in 3 consecutive fights.

And Max Baer himself took on four in a row-Schmeling, Carnera, Braddock and Louis. (His second round knockout of King Levinski was an exhibition, and should not be included as part of the official record. Ditto for Louis and Johnny Davis, and Dempsey and Jimmy Darcy.)

I see what you mean! But for some reason all 3 "fights" are listed as official bouts by BoxRec. If you don't count the Levinsky fight, Baer has an unbeatable 4-in-a-row streak against 4 different heavyweight champs.

I think paulino and tommy had very brave managers! its not realy good matchmaking is it? paulino fought nothing but champions in a 2 year 4 fight stretch! 45 rounds. the spaniard also beat harry wills and max baer.

That site is a convenience, but hardly authoritative, continually revising previously established history, and there have been times when those "fights" were also excluded from those records. (That site contains numerous factual errors which can be uncovered simply by going to youtube. They have midget 1980s MW contender James "Hard Rock" Green as being 5'11" tall.:rofl Lyle-Shavers is recorded as a TKO for Ron when everybody who has seen the footage knows Earnie was counted out. It's anarchy. Please don't make me revisit all the other goofs and misinformation there that even casual research can expose.:dead) According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Louis had 25 title defenses, never 26.
I absolutely do not count it, nor has it been included historically as a championship bout, and that site we've discussed does not enter it as a title defense for the reigning champion either. (A contradiction of heavyweight protocol. An official match by a reigning HW Titleholder is a defense, period. Otherwise, it's an exhibition.)

In the case of Tommy, a rematch with Louis was highly desirable, as so few were seen as being able to extend Joe in that way at that time, and he was fully expected to earn his way back. Braddock was supposed to be washed up, but Jimmy wanted to go out a winner as badly as he had wanted to be a champion. Then, Farr took on Maxie in a rematch against an opponent who he had previously climbed over to get his shot at Louis. Unfortunately, Maxie was highly motivated to turn things around and get his own return at Joe. Consecutive losses to Nova and Burman (who both went on to title shots), finally squashed his chances at a rematch with Louis. That was one of the most poorly timed and improbable five fight losing streaks in the history of heavyweight title contention. Poor management and matchmaking didn't sink Tommy, Tommy sank Tommy.

D, your 100% on that guinness book of records comment. Back in the early 70s they had Primo Carnera as the tallest heavywieght champ and Jess Willard as the heaviest. My father wrote them a letter explaining their mistake and that it was the other way around (probably 100s did the same). Either way, it was rectified to the proper facts the next year

Ted Broadribb ,Farr's manager was a complete dick head ,an ex fighter himself , [Young Snowball], he was in dispute with Farr when Tommmy trained for Louis, watch the fight and see the hash he makes of controlling Farr's injuries . Broadribb went on to manage, and ruin Freddie Mills
