I'm not sure it was, but maybe it is now, although I admit to being as confused as you on this issue. The last semi-conclusive thing I read on it was this: http://www.examiner.com/x-21442-Sacramento-Fight-Sports-Examiner~y2010m2d17-The-official-answers-on-Xylocaine-Is-it-illegal-in-the-USA-Is-it-banned-in-Boxing-Is-it-a-PED which included this: " ... its not banned by the State Athletic Commission. However, Keith Kizer noted that the commission has added some stipulations to the use of Xylocaine. We dont want fighters to use it on fight day. We make sure they have full physicals to check for this. They will be told to stop doing this from the weigh-in through the fight. Fighters must only take Tylenol or ice for any pain. " How long those stipulations have been in effect is anyone's guess. I'm guessing they may be quite recent.
Novacaine/Xylocaine. They are the same class of drug, they are both numbing agents which are used by Mayweather to not feel pain in a sport where very often pain is the deciding factor in the outcome of a fight. Furthermore, and I have no proof on this, but if memory serves there was a minor **** storm about this after the fact because Novacaine/Xylocaine/Lidocaine were not allowed in Michigan boxing at the time of this fight but it was very quickly swept under the rug because Floyd was the hometown boy. like I said in another post, I remember at the time being irritated by it because Floyd had gotten off without any punishment from using what amounted to a performance enhancer and just recently Tyson had a good win changed to a NC after testing positive for marijuana in the same state. In addition to that Tyson had basically been extorted $200,000 by the Michigan commission (when they had a maximum limit to fine fighters of $5000) in order for Tyson to keep the victory. After Tyson paid the ABC stepped in and demanded that Tyson's win be changed into a NC. Yet nothing was ever done to Floyd. Like I said, Im pretty sure It was banned in Michigan boxing at the time. Another interesting situation happened around this time. Emmanual Augustus went to Ohio and fought Mike Griffith (If memory serves). He clowed around for most of the fight before finally stepping on the gas late and stopping Griffith. Afterwards he tested positive for Marijuana. Did the ABC step in then and change the decision? Nope. Augustus tested positive again in 2004 in of all places Michigan against Burton. They werent about to change that to a NC though because they robbed Augustus of the victory anyway, they werent going to go to all the trouble of robbing him to see it changed to a NC.
And for whoever said it was a painkiller they are wrong. the "caines" are numbing agents that actually deaden the nerves preventing the brain from feeling actual pain. they are much more similar to an anasthetic, not a pain killer.
Which bit? I remember Nazim debating Roger in ep. 2 about PEDs, but in that case Nazim was actually wrong ("only legal in Las Vegas"). Was it in ep. 1?
Show that interview with Merchant to Floyd, then ask him to explain what Leonard said about never taking injections in his fist and watch the stutter show start.
So why isn't anybody calling Floyd out?? The only complaints I hear are from forum freaks and keyboard warriors. It must not be something significant if Floyd isn't being condemned by Boxing authorities or important figures. The HBO team knows he's injecting [illegal] substance in his hands. Why aren't they making a big deal out of it? I mean as far as I'm concerned Floyd never had unfair advantage because if he's allowed to use it in Vegas then other boxers have the same right as well. Fair game. I don't quite see the point in these threads. I mean are we all of a sudden supposed to disown Floyd or Pac over a few lies or documented acts of cheating? I don't condone unethical behavior but if it's something that happened a long time ago and it's petty, then it's a good idea to look at the big picture and not be so nit-picky.
How is it petty? He is numbing his hands to get an advantage over his opponent. His manager is then point blank denying it on record. Your rationale is that if a big deal isn't being made out of it then it must not be a big deal. But if it isn't a big deal then why lie about it? The Mayweather's are tainting Pacquiao's (who has never tested positive in his career, for anything illegal) entire life's achievements due to nothing more than conjecture, whereas Floyd has admitted to injecting his hands and still has the gall to continue this defamation campaign. Does that not sicken you?
thats why don't give this mofo any advantage and thats why u must understand that pacman did what he did ,suspicious or not ,all of the sudden floyd pretends to be the malcolm x of boxing it is about advantage anyway he can get it he didn't make weight against marquez accusing people with no proof and so on!!!!brother nazim is not one to **** with thats all i have to say!!!!!
I agree. Floyd keeps talking about how he is cleaning up boxing because too many are getting hurt in the ring. He is effectively injecting his hands so that he can dole out an almost infinite amount of punishment without feeling any negative repercussions. The point of the novocaine is to be able to bludgeon a guy as often and hard as you want without feeling physical need to stop.
Anyone who has had their leg "fall asleep" om them knows how diffcult it is to walk on it. My point is that having numb hands may not be the advantage we are making it out to be.
who gives a **** wether it's legal or not, IT'S NOT NATURAL HOW HE CLAIMS HE IS........... now what eze, go run and hide in a corner.....
Where I have defended anything about Mayweathers claims of him saying things that aren't natural or that he is trying to clean up the sport? I've never agreed nor believed any of that. He wanted Pac to take some extra test, I see no problem with that, specially considering Manny himself agreed to the test in the first place. If it was illegal, it only proves him to be a hypocrite and he should of been suspended, like Mosley should have been. Now go find another post and make up more bull**** without any proof.
