This is true. Tyson was a freak of nature and I could only think of ali and Foreman handling him in his prime (the 80's).
Wow, these guys haven`t got a clue about boxing, just about everyone who posts on here (classic, not general) could do a far, far better job. Can`t believe these guys are being paid for this :-(
Muhammad Ali is my favourite boxer of all time but no way he easily beats a prime Tyson, I would be a bit suprised if Ali actually stopped Tyson, even in a 15 round fight, I think it would be a competitive fight with Ali winning a decision. Ali of 64-67 was the best HW I`ve ever seen but Tyson of 86-89 is right up there with him & is badly underrated on here, I wouldn`t pick any other HW at their best over prime Tyson except Ali in his prime.
Ali's stylistic advantage isn't clear-cut. He's up against a short swarmer with great reflexes, fast hands, and an ATG left hook. A swarmer who specialized in taking down boxer-movers who tried to clinch him. A harder-hitting, bigger, more durable version of Patterson who wouldn't injure his back. Granted, Tyson doesn't have Frazier-level stamina, but he's one of the very few punchers I'd give a chance of KO'ing a prime Ali.
Not a bad uppercut either. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcgsRIekwO4&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcgsRIekwO4&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]
Tyson wasn't much of an infighter, so I doubt he'd wear Ali down like Frazier did, but he certainly had a good jab to work his way into punching range. Ali didn't like to get jabbed.
Right on. If Tyson had better stamina, say at the level of Frazier, I'd pick him over any version of Ali. Cus built Tyson to defeat taller, mobile, jabbing boxers and if you look at what he was doing to that type before Douglas caught him sleeping at the helm, it's easy to see. The Truth Williams. Biggs. Tillis. Holmes --Tyson was being FED that type. As great as Ali was, he couldn't be anything but that type.
prime 4 prime? Ali adapts and does what he has to do. Of course i cant be certain but i dont think Tyson is a 15 round fighter. Ali is, plus has proved in the past that hes capable of coming on stronger in the championship rounds. Late Ali stoppage for me, around the 14th. Nothing to do with mikes chin, i think tyson has a good chin, but more to do with being dragged into deep waters. Would be interesting the first 3/4 rounds tho

My thoughts, exactly. ..."Tony Bruno" atsch:verysad "Guys we've never heard of!" You've never heard of them because you don't know what the **** you're talking about. "Ali was the greatest technical fighter that ever lived...The real Raging Bull." :rofl Then referring to the rope-a-dope as his style and what technical boxing is. Wow. The first time I tried to listen, I got a minute and a half before disgust forced me to stop it. I tried again, just now, and I got to about 2:30 before a bit of chundering. People go so overboard.
He'd ship some pretty damn fierce punishment, but I can't envision anything but an Ali victory. He was an expert at landing the right punches at the right time. Tyson's defense is incredibly overrated. Most B and A-level fighters he fought hit him regularly enough to make me think Ali gets a 50-60 connect percentage. Not quite like Douglas, but similar. Tyson had an unbelievable offense. Good power, top 3 all time handspeed, and one hell of a finishing instinct. But Ali has the best chin AND recuperative powers of any heavyweight champion ever. He was also a master at smothering any fighter that got close, and Tyson would have to get real close to get punches off against a guy that much longer. His powerful and masterful clinch and his nigh-undentable chin and will lead me to believe that Tyson wouldn't be able to get that knockout he'd be looking for. And finally, perhaps the largest point: The guy was weak in the head. He was a quitter as an amateur, he was inconsistent as a pro, and he really didn't have much hard in the latter stages of his career. He was easy to fluster, not all that hard to psych out, and especially if we go into his later days, really, really easy to **** off. Ali would have a field day with him in the pre-fight trash talk and would probably play the same sort of effective mind games during the fight as he did against Foreman. I'm not saying Tyson would quit, but he'd lose his composure and a portion of his effectiveness when Ali outmuscled him on the inside, took his punches, and started talking ****. Mike is a monster head to head, definitely top 10, and a top 10-15 heavyweight great. This is a miserable, miserable matchup for him. Right up there, if not harder, than Foreman. We can say he was built to fight Ali types, but the only one he ever fought who was great, prime, and fought a great fight was Douglas, and, well, Douglas beat his ass.
