Ignoring the wins that Hearns, Hagler, Duran and Leonard have over one another- who do we rate collectively as there top 10 best wins rated from 1-10? It can be so easy to focus on how amazing the nine fights they have against one another I think it will be different to explore there other great wins.
1. Leonard-Benitez 2. Duran-DeJesus 3 3. Hearns-Cuevas 4. Hagler-Minter 5. Duran-DeJesus 2 6. Hearns-Benitez 7. Duran-Buchanan 8. Duran-Barkley 9. Leonard-Kalule 10. Hagler-Sibson Not all in a strict order although the top 4 are in order as the most impressive wins and performances for each fighter. Forgot Duran-Moore as well...
Yup that's in there for sure. btw, that win can be argued as one of tommy's most significant wins as far as his complete body of work p4p legacy goes imo.. If he doesn't get that then him moving up to 160 and up is probably seen as more of a bust for him compared to 154 down . Even though I do have him beating SRL in II.. So he is higher for me than that just being a draw , if any of this crazy logic makes sense
Yeah, Hearns-Hill should be in there. So should Duran-Moore, really. I think Duran and Hearns' records are the most impressive of the fab four outside of fighting each other. Leonard's reputation is mostly built around his fights with Duran, Hearns and Hagler. Hagler's toughest fights outside of them were probably pre-title. But he absolutely dominated Minter in a really challenging environment which is why that fight is so high on my list. Other than that though, I was struggling to think of another Hagler fight that was worthy of being on the list. Hagler was flawless against Sibson but you can replace that one with Hearns-Hill. It was a toss up between Duran-Barkley and Duran-Moore and I chose the Barkley fight but both should be on there really.
nice list. Hearns vs. Hill is a forgotten fight and one of the most impressive. Hill is a Hall of Fame fighter and has 25 or so title defenses at 175 and 190.. Hearns beat Benitez and Hill. I thought those were great wins. Almost the best of the fab 4 other than each other. Except for Ray over Benitez or Kalule. I think tied almost or better than Ray's two fights there. Since Benitez might have been his best at 154 when Hearns fought him. Benitez had outboxed Duran that same year.
Five from each to narrow it down from maybe? Hearns: Cuevas, Benitez, Roldan, Andries, Hill Hagler: Hart, Minter, Sibson, Scypion, Hamsho 2 Duran: deJesus 3, Palomino, Cuevas, Moore, Barkley SRL: Benitez, Kalule, Dave Boy Green ... erm, I'm struggling here. Ray invested so much of a short career into big cash fights against his fab 4 rivals, there isn't that much outside of them to scream about. His outstanding batting average against the other three is (quite rightly imo) why he is viewed so highly (by some). Using the criteria of quality of opposition, dominance of performance, winning on the road, where they were in their own careers (ie Hearns at 32 was considered damaged by the time he fought Hill yet produced that display 28lbs above the weight he won his first title at), I'll go for the following ... Leonard - Benitez Hearns - Cuevas Duran - deJesus 3 Duran - Barkley Hagler - Minter Hearns - Hill Hearns - Andries Duran - Moore Hagler - Hart Hearns - Roldan
Nice post. Just to be a pain in the brittle keiber Hearns win over Benitez must be there. DeJesus II - do you think it pushes for top 5 Duran wins? Good to see Mugabi not there for Hagler!!! Monroe II and Antuofermo might compete for Hagler. SRL - Ranzany and Lalonde would be there.
Brittle Khyber, indeed. He was taken from Londinium in 75AD to Rome and fought Ironanus at the new sports arena, the Chinnyileum! Anyway... Happy to replace Hearns v Roldan or Andries with Benitez. And I haven't seen enough early MMH so happy to take your steer. I did like Duran v deJesus 3 but am also a big fan of the whupping that Lampkin took. Duran was 'orrible that day. Don't know much about Ranzany but have to side with the anti-SRL brigade for once and concede that the Lalonde win was a bit flawed. Donny was no SMW.
Hearns might have the best resume outside the fab 4 with his wins over Benitez,Cuevas and Hill. which is over 40 title defense in those 3 guys.
