It's interesting that you mention Davila. I'm a big fan of his and Canizales as it happens and I was thinking about this reading the thread. I don't really know that Canizales was better than Davila. I think Albert might of been a better fighter before he won the title than after, it was his fourth title shot the Bejines fight after all. He was about and lost fights when you would imagine he was bantamweight prime in age against prime Pintor, prime Zarate and and prime Gomez. Lujan wasn't bad either. Would Canizales have bloomed if he was in with that company? who knows. I think it's between Canizales and Pintor and I lean towards Lupe but what a mouthwatering fight it could be prime for prime.
Fair points regarding Davila, and it's true he swam in deeper waters than Canizales. I don't really see Davila being able to string together that kind of run with all those defenses, though. That speaks (I think) to a bit more of a dynamic style and greater power which might place him just a tick above Tweedy. But yeah, Davila was very solid.
If powderpuff punching Sandavol almost got him in 1, Pintor would take him in 7! The WILFREDO GOMEZ thaT LUPE fought, takes whining Chandler out in 1. 1 !!!!!!!!
Oh man, Chandler-Pintor was one of the great lost fights of the early 80s (along with Sanchez-Pedroza). Boxing fans then didn't miss out on many, but that one is a real what-if. Seeing as Chandler isn't in this tourney, though, I'm picking Pintor to come out on top. Tough as nails, good defense and boxing skills - he'd be too much for Zamora, Marquez and Canizales.
