That's terrible luck. Because it's almost universally believed for some mad reason.

    For example, Charles would?
Do you think Charles is doing better in the tournament also?

Liston quit one time at age 33, against the greatest heavyweight of all time in his prime. How much do you hold that against him?

Other great champions quit on their stool. Pep, Klitschko, tyszu, even Gatti! Duran, considered one of the toughest men ever to step foot into a ring, quit in the middle of a fight!

    “Less physical advantages”

Liston fought plenty of men his own size or much taller and bigger:

Against men 6’3 200lb plus who cracked Ring Magazine top 10

Liston beat: Williams 2x, dejohn, Valdes, Clark, Wepner, Lincoln

    Losses: ali 2x

    7-2 record with 7 knockouts.

Williams, dejohn, Valdes were all very big hitters

Choke knows he’s a troll, he likes to goad people

Look at his heavyweight list. He ranks Liston right next to Patterson and has said Patterson achieved more. He ranks Charles above Liston. Every Marciano oppponent he tries to pump them up to godly status, while Liston opponents he heavily criticizes. He Tries to discredit listons wins over Patterson at any chance he gets. Picks Johansson to beat Liston in 1959

Prime vs Prime would be Vlad vs Tyson & this would be a matter if Vlad can fight defensively until the late rounds and not get caught and shaken, Vlad had late power in either hand but he must always beware of Tysons power. Either later round(after 7-8rds for Vlad or early Tyson KO. I dont think Bowe or Liston would be able to avoid the Vlad jab or the Tyson power. Bowe was pretty easy to hit & liston would start to wear out by 7-8th round. Tyson would end those 2 fights earlier Im thinking. Vlad could box & punch, Bowe was durable & may go 12 but I think Vlad swells up Liston & RSC

I hold him as high as any other great fighter who quit. It is a relevant issue when comparing other great fighters.

yes and none of them beat Mike Tyson or Wlad Klitschko or Riddick Bowe do they? In fact they all lost to guys that were smaller than they were.

up to a level. You are correct. They hit hard up to a level.

A lot of people rate Charles above Sonny. Before the internet generation It was justifiable and rational by the generations of fight fans who lived through the careers of Charles and Liston to rate Ezzard higher than Sonny.

Big Book of Boxing Reader Poll, 1978

    1 Joe Louis
    2 Muhammad Ali
    3 Rocky Marciano
    4 Jack Dempsey
    5 Jack Johnson
    6 Gene Tunney
    7 Joe Frazier
    8 Jim Jeffries
    9 Ezzard Charles
    10 Sonny Liston

And if you don’t like it take it up with the fans who remember both fighters.
