Fox: Erislandy Lara Santoya vs. Ramón Álvarez Barragán & Sebastian Fundora vs. Jamontay Clark RBR

This is for the vacant WBA super welterweight title - a belt Lara himself wore from 2013 until 2016, and which Álvarez's brother (and tonight, his trainer) Rigoberto captured almost nine years ago via robbery SD against Nobuhiro Ishida. Small world!

Rigoberto was a dead average paper titlist, by the way, and lost clearly to Ishida - but even so, Ramón isn't half the fighter he was (and neither rises to even a full integer percent as good as Canelo), so if Lara doesn't breeze through here tonight, it should be taken as indicative of him being finally all the way shot to hell and that he needs to retire ASAP.

 

Yeah, over the centuries their clan were probably the weasels playing both sides in every conflict, selling out their neighbors to first the Spanish during colonial times and then agents of the U.S. or Texas, and in the century before this one probably sold Pancho Villa up the river and nowadays probably snitch for the cartels.

 

Round 1

Lara is feeding the southpaw jab in from the right shoulder and then giving a lean to his left after landing on the nose or tip of Álvarez's beard. Álvarez is pawing down with the left jab from outside, half-feinting with it. Lara scores a 1-2 on the forehead after the ill-advised duck inside by Álvarez to lump a pair into the waistband. Álvarez peeking through his wrists at Lara from outside. Álvarez steps in, bending forward, and gets his left arm bashed down, nearly pried off his face by a Lara right hook. Wild combination by Álvarez diving in with a right and Lara counters smoothly with a left. Álvarez is standing predictably in one spot and then shuffling a couple of steps to his left, invariably. Lara is able to measure with the jab and find him with a left hand lead, every time.
