De la Hoya is circling both ways a few steps, planting the jab, and throwing hard body combos leaning in, crosses and hooks. Gonzalez is jabbing his way in, too far out, following De la Hoya. Gonzalez slashes with a hook as he gets close but De la Hoya springs away from it and places a long straight right on the body. De la Hoya brings a right up top and Gonzalez ties up. Gonzalez ducks and takes a skimming 1-2 across the scalp while chucking in a hard right downstairs with both knees bent and pointed outward, following with a left hook on De la Hoya's hip. Combos sprayed out by De la Hoya while jumping around Gonzalez.

Round 2

De la Hoya is circling, jabbing out, tightening up and blocking Gonzalez's jab, working the body. Wild uppercut jumping out from the ropes by Gonzalez. De la Hoya spins him and slaps a right atop the head as Gonzalez is sinking back into the ropes, and he goes down. Given a count. De la Hoya is popping hard jabs from his guard on the outside in a semi-crouch. Gonzalez blocks a 1-2 and windmills in a left. De la Hoya parries and sidesteps. Double jab, right cross up top and left hook on the body swooping in by De la Hoya. Gonzalez is looping big shots with both hands inside. De la Hoya ducks, moves outside and to his left, and lunges in with a scoring jab. Wild lead hook by Gonzalez jumping in, eyes averted downward, caught with a counter jab in midair and plopping down with his feet out of position.
