De la Hoya is jabbing, stepping left, keeping his feet perfectly spaced evenly shoulder width apart, making Gonzalez turn and struggle to square up while getting tattooed with jabs. De la Hoya starts to open up from outside, popping in and out of crouches to buoy himself forth with extra leverage, dropping right crosses and left hooks on Gonzalez's body. Gonzalez is getting off no offense.

De la Hoya is jabbing into Gonzalez's guard, letting the right hand soar up top as Gonzalez ducks in and holds. Gonzalez has a bloody nose. De la Hoya's right glove is wedged in Gonzalez's neck. He wrenches it free and starts working combinations while circling at mid-range, gliding around Gonzalez. De la Hoya scoops in a hard right on the chin, grunting. Gonzalez is whipping those wild left hooks up top, windmilling and missing. Uppercut by De la Hoya misses as Gonzalez dives in and holds. De la Hoya slaps in with a left hook on the arms, following with a right on the body. Combo by De la Hoya, staggering Gonzalez.

Gonzalez tries jabbing in tentatively in a squatting walk to get inside and hold. Big left on the body from De la Hoya taking a step back, and Gonzalez is down, sucking wind, out.

Interesting - all four of the showcases prospects on this card are unbeaten featherweights, and they may in the future become rivals. (which is why, the commentators explain, they keep each other at more or less arm's length...all 'friendly', but not friends...just in case...)

Joseph Diaz Jr., Julian Ramirez, Roy Tapia, and Diego De la Hoya - those could be some match-ups in a couple of years.

Ramirez is working the southpaw jab coming in, looking for lefts on the stomach. Melo is floating out to his left popping light jabs up top. Melo shifts in with a right hand on the chest, letting his right foot roam out in front and then dragging it back into place. Ramirez is walking Melo down, dipping side to side, placing right jabs, falling away into a defensive lean.

Ramirez is putting the right jab up into Melo's guard. Left uppercut on the ribs by Ramirez. Melo is hurt. Ramirez backs him up into the ropes, more lefts downstairs. Melo ties up. Ramirez is jabbing up into the coif of Melo with his right and then sweeping it low to hook the body. Ramirez ducks a shifting-in lead right by Melo, and bounces a few right jabs off his nose. Ramirez switches to orthodox, lunges in with a few stiff left jabs on the face. Body shots by Ramirez, digging in. Southpaw again. More body work, staying atop Melo. BIG RIGHT HOOK UP TOP BY RAMIREZ, ducking his head and torquing his entire body into the punch. Melo has to hold. Melo backs away from Ramirez's right jab, into a corner.
