Ramirez is staying disciplined on the outside, perforating Hidalgo's torso with jabs and waiting for a moment of weakness to exploit with the coiled left cross downstairs, loosing it only during passes when Hidalgo fails to swivel and square up quickly enough. Hidalgo is very tentative offensively, rimming the ring and minding his D. Ramirez claps down on him with a left and Hidalgo tucks in and works the body, quickly rolling back into his shell.

Ramirez is jabbing into Hidalgo's arm to deaden & numb it and lull Hidalgo, then works an irritant right hook on the left side of Hidalgo's body, causing him to instinctively turn and expose the opposite side, which Ramirez then skewers with a hard left, playing the long con. Ramirez is getting tied up now as Hidalgo swallows up his arms on the inside. Big right hooks and looping lefts on the head by Ramirez, hurting Hidalgo and rocking him around the ring at the ten second clap. Hidalgo collapses atop him and clasps hold of him around the back, saved by the bell.

Ramirez was apparently bragging that he put a severe hurting on Leo Santa Cruz wearing the big puffy gloves in sparring.

 

Round 7

Ramirez is pushing off with the slowly unfurled jab, measuring out the proper distance and teeing off with body shots, head down. Hidalgo waves his left jab while retreating, looking to time a counter as he circles wide. Ramirez is threading in some left hands on the head and Hidalgo is hurt whenever he does, and consequently running to minimize the opportunities Ramirez has. Ramirez is happy to work the body and not force the issue. They bump chests at the bell and Ramirez lands a left on the side. The ref steps between them and Hidalgo does a backwards somersault, the back of his head hitting the bottom rope. He scowls and beckons as though fouled (not sure if he was selling it as a late hit or low blow) but the ref smirks and shakes his head, sending Hidalgo to his corner.

Round 8

Ramirez is pushing inside and chopping at Hidalgo with right hooks, up and down. Hidalgo doing lots of holding. The ref orders a break and Ramirez is free to work, 1-2s on the chin and heavy body shots up close, smothering himself somewhat but taking a toll on Hidalgo nonetheless. Hidalgo backs into a corner, trading hooks, landing his left but submitting to Ramirez's higher work rate and superior firepower.

Ramirez comes out fast & strong, with nonstop blistering 1-2s into the face of Hidalgo. Lots of clinching by Hidalgo. Ramirez is working the body, falling back with his weight on his back foot, upper body tilted away before Hidalgo can either clinch or counter. Hidalgo's jab comes up shy of Ramirez's face while chasing him off after Ramirez lands a 1-2. Ramirez is working multitudes of soft uppercuts at once, digging into the body as Hidalgo lays on the ropes and drops his elbows as low as he dares to cover himself, grabbing and holding until instructed to let go.
